A travel-worn looking man wearing platemail and a large lavender colored robe reaches out to push open the wooden door to the Swallow's Dive Inn. He attempts to scrape the caked dirt and mud from the thick leather boots before stepping quickly into the inn. As he does so he removes the heavy helm from his head, carrying it in his left hand as he walks purposely towards the bar. He exchanges a pleasant greeting with the innkeeper and an exchange of coins takes place between the two men. He then takes a seat at one of the long common room tables and begins to ask casual questions to those around him in an attempt to learn his whereabouts. He directly asks a few of the Team Good members where he might be and may casually mention a few of the details of his trip here, but not his purpose.
Quintis has a few magical effects going on him if anyone can detect magic.

Team Good:The innkeeper, a female elf, nods politely, takes Quintis's money after their short exchange, and continues smiling, watching over her inn as she wipes down the bar.
[As a note, there are no "long common room tables". just a series of circular tables placed around the room. Most have at least one or two people at them.] As luck would have it, Quintis finds himself turning from the bar and finding the nearest empty seat happens to be at the same table as two elvish looking men (Irestil and Kethen.) Feel free to have in character chat between you all.
Team Evil: After getting things identified and such you make a whomping 6000 gold. Other than that nothing happens. 36 hours will indeed pass with no word from the recipient of your message. One can assume he had no input worth mentioning.

As Balkoth passes the two men from the gate he makes a mental note to watch his pockets. Continuing on to his destination he watches the robed men and wonders who they are. He also tells himself to find out why everything is being fortified and security is becoming tighter. [ooc] Knowledge Arcana 8+18= 26 for the different colored smoke in the forges [ooc]
"I am here to find out some information. Some of it you can probably help me with and the rest will hopefully be inside. First, who the people wearing the black robes emblazoned with crowns?" Balkoth looks the man in the eyes, extremely confident. He seems to have done this sort of thing before.

"Who? The Lord's Constables? Aren't from around here are you?" Looking around quickly he seems to make sure of something before leaning in a bit. "I'd watch out for them. You never know when the Lord's watching, and if he gives the orders, they bring ya in."

Steelfire splits the gold with Grey (3000 gp) and then after the time has passed (completely heedless of what time it may be during the day wherein normal people might sleep), locates Grey once more and informs him: "Come, we're leaving. There is a ruin to the NorthEast, about two days travel. Therein lies a foolish shadowy wretch of a creature who worships the forces of Chaos; if you wish to prove your skills are greater than merely enduring abuse for extended periods of time, you can accompany me when we go to kill him. Also, given the circumstances and my incredibly patient and fair treatment, I'm sure you can find this alliance to be an amicable one that would be in your best interest to pursue." Steelfire stands in silent contemplation for a moment before a fist emerges from his shroud and the hand snaps open to reveal the wickedly pointed adamantine talon-like fingers, "...Especially," he begins as his fist blazes with cold fire, "...after seeing what happens to those who refuse me and my new partner, and lord of this city, I'd think you'd be very interested in joining forces. I'll explain more during our journey outwards. We leave as soon as you are ready, you have 30 minutes."
After that, Steelfire strides outwards to the Northeast edge of the city to wait for Grey and then departs when he arrives or after 30 minutes even if Grey is not present.

There's already a decent profit from this going and that was from only one fight... I have to admit, this is going better than I had hoped. The half-drow nodded and prepared to leave (a very short preparation of getting up and stretching). "Alright. Let's go. I was starting to get a little bored waiting in town anyways..."

[OOC] Sorry. I am interested in this game, but you so seldom respond to Team Good that it's hardly seems pressing when you do. And I'm... indisposed of this week. [/OOC]
Keeping his grin happily smiling on his face, Selterha answers her query. "I am mainly a storyteller, but I'm capable in nearly any sort of entertainment you might wish. As for payment, I would consider it more than enough if you might provide me with a meal, and a room to share with my companions for the night. I also wouldn't mind a drink or two, if you think my performance merits it." His head bobs downward and back up, hinting at a wink of one eye, "Does this seem reasonable to you?"

[OOC:] I agree with Dave
...and to clarify the older of the pair, Irestil, appears to be an Elf with deeply tanned skin. He does not appear to be wearing any armor, and a number of swords are still within reach as he remains seated. The younger man, Kethen, to his left appears to be of mixed human and elven decent, but also has the dark skin that comes from living under the sun. He still wears the suit of fullplate crafted from dragon skin. [/OOC]
When asked about what city this is, Kethen quickly replies, "This is Waterdeep, you must know that, the town guard greets everyone..."
Kethen listens intently to the story of the traveller, sharing similar stories if appropriate. Irestil however, seems to be keeping an eye on the pair from the gate, though he does take note of any pertinent information from the stranger about where he came from...

[ooc] Ok, well my apologies for that. It will try to be remedied. But just so you know, I wasn't trying to screw you guys. From my point of view, It wasn't that I wasn't responding to you guys, it was just that you guys took the more "townie" approach, and I kind of thought you guys had your own idea of what you were going to do, and was waiting for you guys to do something. My apologies for being confused on that. I will try to be more pro-active in moving your end of the storyline along.[/ooc]
Team Good: The men that you had seen at the gate seem to just be sitting at their table having their drinks, discussing things in a hushed tone. (DC 20 listen check)
Selterha: "Whatever entertainment you wish to provide would be more than adequate good sir, and your request for payment sounds more than fair. I will have my daughter get your rooms set up straight away." At this she turns her head slightly and raises a hand, motioning to her daughter, who had been tending to the tables at which point she moves off. "Was there anything else I could get you good sir?"

"I think I'll have an ale for the moment, and I'll begin the performance once I've spoken with my companions." He gives a small bow and moves back over to his friends, taking a seat. "I've arranged a room here for the night. If we can find some information about what's going on tonight, perhaps we can decide what we should be attempting to do on the morrow."

He leans forward and engages the two men before him in small talk for a few moments as he guages their character, not wanting to speak too frankly to anyone who might be the employ of those he pursues.
"Oh, yes, of course this must be Waterdeep. I am truly sorry for my apparent state, but I have ridden hard for nearly a fortnight now and my body aches with the sores of the saddle. If you would hear it, I will tell you my tale."
Quintis pauses for a moment, eyeing the pair of travelers before him to guage their interest in his tale before he continues in a weary voice.
"I was assisting a number of mages in battling a trio of gruesome fiends that had been spreading their darkness along the path I travelled. Lathander's light shines brilliantly when faced against the darkness and I dispelled a score of the shadowy areas that had befallen the area. One spot though, was tougher than the rest and the mages began to throw their most powerful magic at it. The more powerful the magic thrown, the larger this enigma for lack of a better term grew. It engulfed all of us, one by one, and I found myself not far from here on a bluff. I was not but a step from falling onto the stony grey rocks below, but Lathander it appears has other plans for me."
He pauses again, taking a moment to examine in further detail those he shares a table with. He continues again where he left off,
"I should not rest here long, I am afraid. I have a bit of an urgent situation to attend to, but I fear I am far from where I should be headed. Waterdeep was not my original destination and I am unsure how far I have been transported by those fiends from my path. So, I have shared my story with you. Perhaps you might be inclined to share what you know of the goings on in Waterdeep?"
He leans back and straightens up, platemail creaking as he shifts in the chair.

"Oh! My apologies, Sir. I hadn't realized you were a guest at our table. I am Selterha, and will be providing the entertainment here tonight. You might be...?" He seems apologetic for his oversight, and interested in this newcomer.

Listen: 15 + 3 = 20 18
Failing to understand the hushed tones of the pair from the gate, Irestil brings his attention to the traveller in front of him.
"Well, questions first, this strange darkness you speak of... perhaps you are not precisely where you believe you are. Are you familiar with this world we are in? Most prefer to call it "Shards" if recall correctly. It sounds like you are familiar with Waterdeep, but things may be different from what you know of it..."
[OOC:] from the way I was reading that it sounds as if Quintis is a new arrival into the fragmented reality of this place, if I am completely off, let me know and I'll alter my response... perhaps I'm reading wrong. [/OOC]

Team Good: Most of the group is merely doing character interactions still I believe, yes? Let me know if I missed anything I need to respond to.
Team Evil: The both of you travel for two days and reach the remains of Candlekeep. The doors are once again back in place, and seemingly hanging just as precariously as before. For max, since he wasn't here before: It is a large walled keep, rather run down and decaying but still mostly functional. Inside the wall is a large courtyard surrounding an inner keep that is roofed in and seemingly in better repair, albeit not much. Proceed as you wish.

Steelfire explains to Grey the events and details of his travels to this place before, filling and explaining what transpired and what kind of enemy lies in wait here during their two day journey to reach this place.
After arriving, Steelfire grabs one of the ramshackle doors and hurls it out of the way to make an opening before booming out. "Chaos worshiping shade! Mine was the error last time, in my patience I had thought that surely there must be reasonable creatures in this mash of planes, that was a mistake and an encounter with another such force has left the mistake obvious that none of you indigenous factions possess any measure of reason or forethought. Once bound in flesh, always a fleshing! As such, I offer you one last chance, join with me and my allies and you needn't die here today. Otherwise..." and with this Grey gets to see something new, Steelfire whips Terminus off of his back and stands there with the great sword at the ready, "...I am going to force-feed you every last inch of this blade."
