well, the magister looks like the only arcane/advisor position, so if someone else would be doing that, i'll go for my other idea i wanted to do

Ah, that just made me think of something: don't go into this campaign thinking of fulfilling a certain role in the kingdom. In fact, no one in the party needs to: that's what NPCs are for. Besides, what good would a High Priest be if he is always galumphing about the countryside fighting the Amazons of the Island of Bigfooted Women over the Purple Pearl of Pinoche?
DO, however, go in thinking "okay, what can my character do that can help establish a kingdom?". I realise that this might sound like the complete opposite of what I just said, but it's not. Not really, anyways. Maybe your character is learned in politics and diplomacy, yes, or maybe he's just a really good architect who knows how to make fortifications. Be creative, and have fun.

I want to go into the game with a more natural connection to the rest of the players, I will be playing a devout follower of Erastil , the lawful good god of farming, hunting, trade and family. He will be joining the expedition to stabilize the region for those that wish to settle the wilderness. Is anyone wanting to relate their character to mine?

I'd be willing to relate my character if you want. I already have a fairly well developed character, but not a whole lot of back story yet, so I'm willing to see what we can come up with. ^_^

I will be going into this with a fairly naturalistic character, probably at least a follower of Erastil in name, if not all that much of a devotee. My backstory precludes some things, but if you want to work with me, I'd be happy to have a bit of a connection. Not sure how much will work out, though, just to warn you.

Alright, my character is Rurik. He is a Chelaxian looking local. I am planning on him having a family that he wants to bring to a new land to protect them. He doesn't have a magical connection to Eristil, but he gathers friends and local hunters to pray to him. He hunts for a living and his most valueable possession is a horse.

would he be interested in a mercenary/bodyguard type associate? That is basically what Ayden, my character is.

Alright then, if we met in a bodyguard capacity, Rurik likely met you days to weeks beforehand when looking for a way to get into the stolen lands with a group. He would promise you work in the movement to the unsettled area.

That could definitely work. I will explain more about my character when I see you/when I have it more figured out. lol.

I like your idea Mike, but I want to suggest one small thing: don't have your character bring his family just yet. At the beginning, the party is given a charter to explore, map, and make the land safe of banditry and most other dangers: the actual right to rule doesn't happen until that's done with. (And I apologize for not making that clear: I didn't have my books on me, so I forgot about that small tidbit).
So, keep the same idea: your character saw the charter, and saw it as a good opportunity to see the area and possibly move your family in, getting your foot in the door, so to speak.
We can talk more about this on the drive back, I guess.
