Braska merely continues floating in mid-air, book in hand, scribbling notes into said book. Nodding politely when the Uldra motions to him he smiles. "Sorry I'm not more talkative, just so much to take in here. And anything might be useful." Floating closer to the food he munches idly as he continues to make notations of the Uldra's speech.

Zomiel had been rather quiet. The blade master was always more of a listener than a talker, especially with those he was unfamiliar with. Regardless, he listened intently when Raum mentioned a request.

Raum smiles warmly, "It is not so much what I want so much as what my God requests. Kaltozaanar does not enter this village, so it could be assumed that our conversation here is private. Simply put, adventurers of your stature and abilities might be able to put an end to Kaltozaanar's trouble. I know it's a tough request and I in no way obligate you to do so, though Paeltoath might not be so forgiving to a 'no' were you to speak to him personally, which is why I act his intermediary in this instance. I am but an old man and I can only feel regret if you are unwilling to aid us, but I'll hold no ill will, things have been like this for centuries, it is not unpleasant, Kaltozaanar simply prevents it from being magnificent... and one does occasionally miss seeing other terrains than a frozen expanse."
He sighs once, "Perhaps I should not lay such a burden upon people I just met. Yes, that is inappropriate of me, forget I said anything, one does not ask a new friend to slay such a powerful monster. It had simply been a while since anyone came here, forgive an old man not minding his manners." He seems to become rather quiet, as though angry at himself.

Sense Motive: 20+5=25 Is this really as he's presenting it?

He seems to firmly believe it's as he presents it, but knowing gods and creatures of seemingly godlike powers, it's highly likely there's A LOT more to this story than Raum knows. After all, he is only an elderly Uldra and though possessed of some sorcery talent you suspect he's nowhere near the level of skill to be able to recognize what deceptions or plans or motives a god might truly possess.

Warshade mulls the quest over quietly, a serious expression on his face as he nods with understanding. "Don't be sorry Raum, it is your right to have hope for your people. I think we shall look into your request. Perhaps more information is in order. We cannot seriously consider anything until we know all the facts." Looking to the others, "surely it would not hurt to hear out what information he has on the matter...?"

Jecht nods, "Of course. You fellas should have all the information first before we decide to help. Let me know when you're ready." And he proceeds to lay on the ground, taking one more drink before patting his full stomach and closing his eyes for a cat-nap.

NOTE: I'm going to need some specific questions from you guys, not sure what he'd add if you just ask him to tell you everything about both gods. He's pretty much said the 'overview' of that, so you'll need to be a little more specific to get any more information.

Warshade thinks for a bit.
"I suppose there isn't much else you can tell us. It might help however if we knew where to possibly find either being. We might be able to speak with Paeltoath directly to gain more detailed information."
"Or perhaps even simple legends of Kaltozaanar, you would be surprised how often a kernel of truth can be hidden in such wild fancies"

Raum seems surprised: "You do not know where to find Paeltoath? My eyesight is not as good as it once was, but is that not Him in the North even now?" He gestures towards the giant mound shape that moves almost imperceptibly in the distance. Raum turns and squints. "Yes... yes that's Him, only 'He' is that large... well, Him and Kaltozaanar, though Kaltozaanar is not quite so big." He turns back, "All the same, travel North, always North, and whether you wish it or not, you will encounter Paeltoath."
Raum muses over the question for a moment regarding legends: "Kaltozaanar..." he pauses. "He's been described as many things, the common belief and theme of his form is that of a great spider-like crab, it's also said that he has six mouths, all of which are used for a different 'voice' whether calm and collected or ragingly furious. Eyes cover its body so that it is never surprised and it is said to be able to drain not just a man's strength, but his entire essence within seconds. The man who travels the layers... I heard him use a term once... he called it... something with an 'S'... he also remarked that it was unsurprising that 'less experienced individuals' would hail it as a God. He claimed it was far from it, instead merely an 'Omega-infused aberration'. I hope that helps..." he mutters and then continues again as if remembering something, "Oh, it's also said that he is a tiresome god, spending much of his time in slumber thanks to his devious mind overexerting itself. You must forgive my lack of depth but I've more or less skimmed the fairy tales for you. I assume you don't want to hear tales of Kaltozaanar's evil as much as you want to know what may help you." Raum smiles with a bit of humor in his face at that. "As far as his location, Kaltozaanar is said to pace the South endlessly while awake, hidden from all sight, and that he sleeps beneath the ice during his hibernation times." He nods, done speaking, having given all the advice he seems able regarding Kaltozaanar.
From his details Warshade and Braska are able to put together there is only one creature that would fit such a description accurately... a Shivhad... and an Omega-infused one at that from what you heard. (pg 152 of Frostburn, I'm willing to say as epic adventurers you might have even encountered one prior and between Braska and Warshade you have enough knowledge to know all about them anyway as a still potential threat to epic level folk).
Raum adamantly points out: "Don't head North unless you intend to agree with Paeltoath, he has very little patience for disobedience and refusal!"

Taking note of all the information, nodding to himself and thinking on what such a creature as described might be able to do when Omega enhanced he looks up at Raum. "What about legends of Paeltoath? Any generic legends of him, or perhaps this 'man' of yours that you say travels the layers said something interesting about him? Also, what of this man you speak of who travels the layers?"

Raum looks reverently northward, "Paeltoath, bringer of winter, where He goes, the ice storms rage. He is a towering mountain of ice, a pinnacle of all things cold and frozen. Long ago it was said he slept in a sheet of black ice created by another god of ice, jealous of Paeltoath's prowess. He was freed when brought here, only to find Himself trapped anew. Now He seeks to be free and keeps His angels with Him at all times to help defend Him while musing over how to escape. Dragons clad in white alight around His frozen presence, immune to the bitter cold even of His furious blizzard. Adventurers, I don't doubt your bravery, but though we worship Him and He protects us, He is not as merciful as one might imagine." He stares darkly at that but it passes a moment, like a memory of being deservedly punished heavily for disobedience.
"As for the traveler, well, he seems to never age... not that I've ever seen his face. When last he came through here I was but a boy. He talks in such a strange enthusiastic voice, seeking some item only he knows and he never stays more than a day, we know not how he travels so freely. He laughingly calls himself an 'ancient man of mystery'... whatever that means... though he seems to be both ancient and mysterious..." Raum trails off chuckling.

Thinking everything over, Warshade turns to Raum again. "Well, I believe we might be able to help you, or at least we can try. But first I think we should rest and prepare properly for this environment. We were not quite prepared for an environment such as this. Would it be alright if we stayed within your city for a bit?"
[ooc] I say we go try and talk to Paeltoath, and maybe get an edge against Kaltozanaar. But I'm not ready to protect us against extreme cold, so I'd like to prepare for that with some spells. [/ooc]

"I believe a bit of rest would be appropriate as well, if you would be so kind."
(I completely agree, no prepared for a cold environment. Will need to rememorize some stuff, especially for fighting that creature, since we know what it is now.)
