[ooc] Something big just kind of came up in my life, so it will be Thursday before I post. I will be posting on Thursday though so I am not stopping this game. I will explain on Thursday what happened. Currently the path you are taking will take over an hour with you being careful, finding ways around obstructions, and stuff like that. I would love to see some posts about character interaction and roleplaying in the mean time. I may even be able to scrounge up a little XP for anyone does some decent interactions. [ooc]

Walking around to the remains of each of the dead, he kneels down by each dead body, reaching out both hands, one on top the creatures head and the other over its face, and closing the eyes of each in an almost solemn gesture, muttering something under his breath. Immediately after closing the eyes of each creature he then quickly and calmly rips the head from each corpse, snapping the neck with a twist and then jerking the head back and off. After removing the head he chucks it off towards the cliff face non-chalantly as he stands with just a flick of his arm, the heads rolling over the edge of the cliff into oblivion. When he is done with his odd part solemn part savage ritual for each body, he stands and wipes his hands together a few times as if wiping dust from them, before catching up quickly with the rest of the group (if they left him behind), or motioning for them to move onwards if they have not left yet.

Stepping around from behind, "Sorack, as I have no doubt previously informed you, any death-rituals are meaningless once the spirit has moved onward. Your enactment of such things merely delays our quest, however momentarily. Please concentrate on the task at hand, rather than trivialities that accomplish nothing. If they still lived, I would understand your action, but the dead bear little energy for you." Togashi does not seem upset, as such, merely making his point.

Ssorthisz's quasit appears next to him.
"The road ahead is indeed arduous, but in and of itself, Master" "Thank you, Hazrael. And the word from our master?" "It is unclear whether or not real progress has been made for our cause. It's possible that the soldiers are helping, but it is difficult to be certain." Ssorthisz acts as though he would have sighed, if his lungs still worked. As is, he mostly just slumped his posture slightly.
He turns his attention back to the rest of the party as the quasit resumes his invisibility. "So how exactly do you plan on dealing with these conditions for extended periods of time? I'm sure the spell protecting you will wear out soon."

Salazraen grins wildly and chuckles slightly as though someone told a joke he found incredibly humorous: "Us? We intend to simply let the heat warm us against the chill thought of a recent idea we've had. Yes, it may be the most unlikely of sources that will acquires us the most unlikely of prizes. However, that is neither here, nor there, nor anywhere nearby. SO!" and he claps his hands together, "We continue on. As for the rest of you... perhaps if we sped our pace, found this gate, and crossed to the other side... another blight might strike you all dead besides heat? It'd be a delightful change of pace at least wouldn't it? Maybe cold, maybe acid, maybe sound or lightning? The myriad deaths the universe can bestow are endlessly splendid to behold are they not!?"
Salazraen's morbid grin remains and he suddenly begins to dance his way along with the group, not bothering to be good at it and annoyingly humming to himself as he continues.

Ssorthisz smirks to himself at that reaction, as though thinking of some kind of inside joke.

Standing from the last body he glances over towards Togashi and shrugs. "And, as I've no doubt said before.. At least this way it'll be slightly harder for them to talk about what they saw before they died from either speaking with the dead or Ressurection." Glancing over towards the cliff where he threw the heads, his own head pitches to the side slightly as he talks, his voice changing a bit to what is clearly known to the group by now as Volaren speaking. "Besides.. at least this way we know they're dead for sure."
Turning back to the group he smirks slightly in Ssorthisz's direction. "We will endure as we always do. Although that isn't to say we would mind a bit of magic to keep this heat off of us. It would let us keep our endurance strictly for the fighting that is sure to ensue, but if nothing is available then we are sure we can endure something as mild as this heat for a while." All this is said as the wounds he gathered from the previous battle continue to knit themselves back together rather quickly, probably finishing up around this point in time. Stretching a bit he waits for the rest of the group to move on.

You depart, heading in the direction Bacnex has pointed out. He is still visible and remains in the head of the party. The side of the cliff is rather steep and is a difficult decent for those without flight. You make your way into a canyon. The walls are steep and are almost a two-hundred feet high at their peak. Veins of molten rock flow through the ground and the walls and in the center of your path a stream of glowing hot liquid runs in the direction you are heading. Once Bacnex’s spell wears off, heat hits you from all directions and the ground seems to be pulling hard on you. After nearly an hour, faint sounds of battle drift to your ears. Not much farther down the path you see a wall almost one hundred feet ahead.
[ooc] It is at this point a screen pops up presenting a new set of rules. Because you are all such high levels, I find it highly improbable and not as much fun to continually battle incredibly high CR encounters. I wanted to simulate the phenomenon in books and movies where the main characters slaughter their opposition in combat and are really flashy but you know there is no challenge. So I am starting a new type of encounter I am going to call a CHALLENGE. There will be several types of challenges, but I will only be explaining one type here. This is a STUNT CHALLENGE. The goal is to perform the selected task with as much style and presentation as you can. I will rate your performance on a scale of 0 to 3. 0 being you made me yawn from boredom and 3 being I actually said out loud “That was awesome!” You will receive a box text of information regarding the situation. The box text is not alterable. It is the exact setting and actions that you will be required to react to, and unless I forgot to describe something, no interrupting. Now, you will never be outright killed from a stunt challenge. At worst you may take some minor damage of some kind, or if you score a 0 you may have you physical appearance changed slightly or something embarrassing happen to you because you sucked so bad. You will be graded on: -Style and presentation -Effectiveness of action (whether what you did would actually work) -Use of environment and equipment All rolls on your part will be considered natural 20’s and for dispatching an opponent any blow you choose can be a death blow. You will have approximately two full round actions to perform the action. Make sure that what you write, your character is actually capable of performing. With your description, also state whether you want XP or equipment as a reward. The equipment will not necessarily be tailored to your character and will be according to the situation, so make sure to choose wisely. It is probably obvious but the higher you score the better the equipment/XP. A 0 will earn you little to nothing and I will be very disappointed if I have to hand one of these out. The person will be chosen by me. I will try to be as fair as possible. Let me know how you guys like the challenges idea and even specific challenges. I have some other ideas in mind so it won’t always be this specific challenge. And just to make this clear, you will be going into normal combat, this is just to add flavor to the game.
As you approach the wall you can hear fighting going on well past it. The canyon walls are still just as steep and from one to the other is about twenty-five feet. A small river of lava still runs down the center of the path and under the wall. Jutting out from the rock wall to your left, the vicious barricade in front of you stops just over ten feet short of the rock wall to your right, leaving space to slip through. The barricade looks as if many enormous swords, axes, and other weapons were melted together and erected as a wall. Cruel spikes protrude from the wall and you see a few victims have found themselves as bloody decoration upon it. Just as you begin to peer around the corner, a fire giant leaps from his hiding spot. His only protection is his thick skin and breastplate armor. Bulging muscles power his great sword as it arcs through the air toward your neck. You know the giant is going to die by your hand. The only question is… How will you do it?
[ooc] Deej, this challenge is yours. Choose XP or Loot and have at him.
Nick your fast healing fixes you up but the continuous pain gets tiring. You are fatigued. Ben your fast healing isn’t quite enough. When you reach the wall, you are at 50 hit points and are fatigued. Max you have nothing to protect your self and will die. If any of you find a way of protecting yourself from fire, ignore what I have said about you.
All, remember there is heavy gravity, -2 to everything physical basically.
The sky is filled with smoke, so flying high to get a look doesn’t work so well. [/ooc]

The fire giant swings hard at the most frail-looking party member, assuming a quick and easy kill. The idiot even had his back to him, and even if he didn't, the comparatively miniscule scimitar he was holding couldn't possibly match his greatsword.
Or so he thought.
Ssorthisz is neither blind nor deaf. And he is difficult to surprise with more than a century of experience. As he hears his opponent spring at him, he smirks, guessing that his opponent thinks him more vulnerable than he is. His feint worked. His eyes glow bright emerald as he channels his link to the plane of negative energy, bolstering himself. He brings his scimitar around to meet the greatsword mid swing, an unnatural green aura tracing it's swing as it flies, and it shatters the giant's blade.
Shards of his sword flying into his face, the giant is caught off guard for a moment, and almost doesn't see the smaller man fly straight up into the air. Only his greenish glow gives his appearance away. In a fit of rage, he bashes the side of the cliff, causing a rather large boulder to fall off, and splash into a stream of lava. The giant wears his own grin now, seeing another of his favorite weapons, already prepared for him to toss. He picks it up out of the lava and gives it a mighty heave as he spouts some god-awful obscenity in Giant.
Ssorthisz was almost hoping the giant would do that. He waits for the rock to reach the peak of it's ballistic trajectory, which is pretty close to his face. But he doesn't exactly dodge it. Instead, he does a backflip in midair, perching on the underside of it, and pushes off as hard as his magically enhanced self can manage. The boulder actually pauses in midair again from the sheer force of pushing off, and Ssorthisz is propelled downward even harder still, thanks to the stronger gravity, turning him more into an emerald blur, resembling a falling meteor. He lets out a loud shout as he falls, and with all that sheer momentum, he cleaves the giant in two just as easily as he did his sword.
After the dust settles, the green aura surrounding him fades. He stands up, brushes off his cloak, yanks his sword out of the ground, and flicks off a bit of molten rock that had stuck to it.
He walks back over to the party and says: "So shall we see what the ruckus on the other side of that wall is about?"
[ooc] I choose XP for my reward.
also, just as a note, the green aura isn't actually described in any of my abilities, it's just me taking creative license with 'personalized magical effects'. [/ooc]

Having begrudgingly donned a make-shift suit of Fire Giant skin to help resist against the oppressing heat of the plane, Kale watches his companion's display with a sly grin.
In response to his comment, Kale gives Ssorthisz a slap on the back with a deep chuckle. "Yes, can't let you have all the fun"
A wicked sneer appears on his face, and the flames behind Kale's eyes flickers with his anticipation for action.

"Yes. I am on it." Togashi slides coolly between the light shed by the lava floe, coming to rest up on the wall of weapons, perched in shadow. He calmly views what transpires on the other side.

Glancing around to make sure no foes are lurking to give them away, he quickly gauges the height on the wall and prepares to leap up and reach the top should Togashi seem to need backup. (I can reach 10 feet up automatically, 15 feet if that auto 20 thing applies outside of our "Challenges". I then have a climb check of +14, so I should scale whats left of the wall fairly quickly should it be larger than I can leap. You didn't really give us a height on the wall. lol)

Salazraen saunters around the edge of the wall (I believe there was a gap that most of us went through, if I'm wrong, edit my post and I'll fix it with another action)... although 'struts' would be a more accurate description. He gingerly steps around the remains of the Fire Giant but otherwise appears to simply be looking about as though on some kind of leisurely tour, although his allies are aware that behind the crystal mask that his eyes are darting back and forth, soaking in as much detail as he can.

Dhelmar's feet arch and the wings on his back flutter. He lifts casually off the ground and proceeds over the crudely made wall, his dark brown eyes narrowing noticably as he scans the distant horizon for the fighting he has heard.
Spot: 10+9= 19 Listen: 12+19= 31
Eyes still narrowed, he turns his attention to the group below, speaking in a commanding tone,
" Let us not wander so blindly into another ambush. I trust one of you can tell us who is fighting ahead. It would be wise of us to conserve our energy and not fight every devil spawn that nests in this layer of the Abyss. As for myself, I have a few preperations to make."
He smiles, showing perfect white teeth and points a slender finger at Togashi, who disappears from view. Following that, he begins to chant as a silver aura creeps from his being and pulses, growing brighter across his body until he is incased in its power. Confident that his magic worked, he flutters to the ground and performs an intricate ritual as he dances about chanting in a forgotten arcane language. At the end of the ritual, he transforms into a large draconic creature with large dull gray scales, emerald green eyes, stubby wings, and a long bone-spiked prehensile tail.
I cast Mass Invisibility with Togashi as the sole target. I cast extended Scintillating Scales on myself, and I cast Extended Shapechage via a Metamagic Rod of Extend (Greater) and turn into a Scalamagdrion. I suppress my silence ability for now.
