After leaning forward to take the stone from the table, the devilish man stands. "I do not need to be civil or polite with you, but I expect it from all of you, so I will. (Turning to Leon) I apologize for my rude actions, but you misunderstand what I meant. I did not mean a hand held physically steady, but rather a heart that will not abandon reason to panic in the heat of danger. At the latter end of our previous venture into the castle, a mage that was with us lost his head at the sudden sight of an unknown creature. His actions cost me much trouble, and came close to costing our lives. He was not so lucky. I want no reccurance of this problem. I will brook no incompetence. My name is Devin, but you may call me leader or sir, if you prefer. I will be leading this expeditionary force, but have no mind to make demands upon any of you, other than performance." While speaking, Devin looks at each of those addressed, and it is clear from the way he speaks and carries himself during this monologue that he has given similar speeches many times before.

"Well put Devin." The tanned man casually stands up, straightens his armor, and looks at Leon. "I think I can live with being uncivil." He says as if not taking the whip wielder seriously. "My name is Corvinus. Now lets go." He begins to make his way towards the door.

"Well, very interesting. And for your information, I didn't misunderstand what you meant, although I admit to not knowing the details you described. I merely decided to take you literally." Standing up he turns and takes a few steps away from the table before turning back.
"As for you leading, I'm not entirely sure who put you in charge or how you decided this, but I can only assume the ones who called us here," at this he glances briefly at Shiomi before returning his gaze to the creature known as Devin "have approved this...without conferring with those who were supposed to be working on this job as well. Or at least without conferring with some of us. But this job needs done, and if that means working with you then I have no qualms about that. But you'll have to do more than talk big to prove yourself before I even consider following your orders like a good little soldier...And you can forget the titles, keep those in your dreams." he says this last bit with a smirk, obviously light heartedly as if a joke. The rest was said straight faced, which is odd for Leon.
With a final nod, respectful even as if he understands what Devin is trying to do, he turns and regards the man who just introduced himself as Corvinus.. who is now headed towards the door. Shaking his head he makes a mental note to keep an eye on that one. I think i trust the Demon more than I trust that one... He thinks to himself. Shaking his head again he strides forward, clapping a hand on Mathias's shoulder in passing. "Well lets go old friend, Its not like we actually wanted to meet the rest of the people we were going to be working with, so lets follow this brash one here and make sure he doesn't get himself killed too quickly, shall we? Maybe this is how this group works, following one person around brashly instead of coming up with a plan or talking things over. I mean, what do I know about this sort of thing anyway?" At this he laughs out loud with a short bark and keeps walking, his hand never leaving its resting spot on his whip at his side.

Devin raises his voice slightly, to make it apparent he is speaking to those headed out the door, although he does not turn to look to them. "I suggest you return to this table so that we may, as Leon pointed out, form an entrance strategy. Some of us have gone inside the castle before, but those of you who are new obviously haven't. We still need to share what information we have and get an accurate description of everyone's capabilities before we go and 'storm the keep' or whatever you had in mind." Devin stares down at the table, a troubled look upon his brow.

"Leon, to even imply you know about planning seems a bit out of place. Usually you pick up whatever works as a weapon and keep trudging on never fail... I seem to remember you even using a pocketwatch with the belief it could stop time... you never could prove that to me." Mathias laughs, reminiscing about past adventures, he turns to the group.
"I am Mathias Cronqvist, crusader of the Order of Illumination, and while you may feel little to no need for civility, I believe it is all that keeps us above the beasts that prowl these woods and so would be in our best interest to maintain it equally amongst eachother. My capacities are that of a champion and crusader, I believe the term is paladin however I am not as limited as they in my abilities. I can achieve remarkable stealth despite this armor I wear and my hammer is forged of adamantine and thus makes an excellent tool as well as instrument of God." He turns and surveys the others, remaining standing as he seems temporarily lost in thought.
Finally his eyes land on Yoshio, "Patience, sir Yoshio, is a virtue. Now then, if you have some strategy to discuss with us, please do so, but first I must inquire as to the state of the town. Things seem incredibly grim and I have no lofty goals of successfully cleansing the castle in one go... so establishing a safer place to fall back to may be in our best interest since now that we are here we'll be unable to leave if I am to understand correctly. With that said, resting and sleeping in at least a relatively safe village is better than returning to a ghost town."
His gaze travels to Devin, "I will not, my apologies, call you leader or sir, as any identified as such becomes a target. Instead, we will all lead in our own right so that should one fall the others may, no pun intended on such a grim matter, keep their heads about them."

Hmmph Point for the Demon. He thinks to himself, stopping where he is and turning, talking to Mathias as he walks past. "Look, I told you once and I'll tell you again, that pocket watch stopped time for a few seconds every time I pressed in the stopper. I can't believe you ever managed to convince me to leave it on that scale in place of that stupid dagger..And then the bloody thing disappeared so I couldn't even pick it back up once we realized the "magical" dagger was nothing more than a simple throwing dagger." Shaking his head back and forth he moves up to the table again and pulls up a chair next to the lady sitting there. "M'lady, if I may." and with that he sits down, immediately putting his feet up and leaning back slightly on the back two legs of the chair.
"Now, I do agree with you on the town. It would be good to keep somewhere to fallback to when we need to rest. While the monsters may seem to reproduce themselves at an alarming rate, I'm sure that a single session of sleep spent in town won't erase too much progress we would have made." Grinning slightly, he seems to be keeping a remark to himself, and one can probably speculate he is keeping a particularly bad joke to himself, as he is generally full of them.
"Oh, and as for abilities. I'm a hunter. Monster hunter specifically. I hunt down and destroy all manner of evil creatures, mostly the vile undead..and yes," he says this with a look to Corvinus "I do this with my whip. I've trained my entire life in combat styles and in using this whip. Essentially I'm a born and bred fighter."

Devin laughs under his breath, seeming to be in a better mood now. "You, sir, are the first sensible man I have yet to work with on this mission. I like your attitude to the situation, but I find my intent once more mistaken. I did not ask any of you to call me by any title, nor did I ask to be the leader of this group. I am, and I care not if you call me anything to denote that fact. Nor did I say that I would make all decisions during this venture. If you are all as capable as your price probably says you are, there should be no reason for me to do so. Nonetheless, a leader is what I hired on to be, and I shall take the responsibilities a leader must." Then, almost as an aside to Corvinus, "Besides, if anyone is coming back alone, it will be me. I've been told by many a company that I cannot die. I have yet to prove them wrong."

"Yes, I think I will like this bunch" Tobias says softly in his dark gravelly voice. Still seated at the table, he slouches, propping his head up with his hands (elbows on the table).@he looks everyone over one last time, not hiding his appreciative eye of the only woman in the grim group, but more so keeping a watch over the "crusader" and his "hammer of justice".

Chuckling under his breath abit, in a better mood himself, he looks up at Devin. "You know, I've had people tell me that same thing in fact. Id say lets not test either of our lucks and do this one right. There's a Vampire up there that needs eliminated, so lets get down to business. You've been to the castle. Advice?"

"It would be best to play this one cautiously, and not presume that we know what will come our way, just because we have gone through a part of the structure. This place seems to have it out for us. I won't bore you with details, but if we act together, in a cautious manner, I believe we will be alright. The last expedition did fine for itself until someone lost their cool and acted on their own, disregarding the others."

Having only walked a few paces from the table, Corvinus turns back and returns to his seat. "I guess this is one way to do it. If anyone hadn't surmised, I am a front line fighter. Mathias, I would assume that you are a front line fighter as well. And Leon, what position do you take in combat? In all my many years of fighting, I have never seen a leather whip be useful against monsters." He speaks like someone who knows exactly what he is talking about and as if he genuinely wants answers to his questions.

"Well, since you actually decided to ask.. in a way.." Leon reaches down and pulls his whip from his side, pulling his feet from the table, letting the chair thud down onto all four feet, before leaning in and holding the whip in both hands, still coiled. "This whip has been in my family for years. It has been alchemically strengthened so that one may use it with quite a deal of force. Also, there are some techniques with a whip that not your everyday wielder knows which, having spent my entire life training with hardly any other weapon, I have perfected. This makes me much more deadly with, as you put it, a leather whip than even your most practiced fighter who decides to put one to use. Also, it has been magically enchanted against those of an Evil nature, and this," At that he taps a small cross medallion that hangs from the hilt "Blesses it further against the foul undead who are my preferred prey. So, just because you have fought for a long time... don't assume you have seen everything. There are always surprises to be had."
"Also, the styles of fighting which I have been trained in help focus my energies even more, giving me a few more tricks up my sleeve. As for where I fight. I am just as much a frontlines fighter as yourself or Mathias. If you don't believe me, ask him. We have fought together before, and I imagine will again in the future. I will gladly surrender the front spots to the pair of you if the fighting gets pulled in close though, as obviously my weapon of choice has a better capability of striking from afar, even with allies interposed between my targets and myself, than most if not all swords."

Bristling at the audacity of Devin, Renard crosses his legs. "As for myself, I am Renard Chevalier, of the Order of the Silvered Leaf. I am skilled with a rapier, though my greatest talent lies in my magic; I specialize in the alteration of the basic properties of man, monster, and other such. I also offer my knowledge in several fields of study, and am able to decipher writings and magical items."

The mage waited for the party to settle down a bit before speaking again. "Do not worry about the town. The priest and I have placed a number of wards in the area to keep the monsters at bay. Although it's a perfect defense, but the few who have managed to get through the town guard has dealt with thus far. Only the outskirts of the town are not as protected. The monsters, mainly undead so far, have mostly attacked during the night. They seem to bide their time during the day. Or what barely passes for a daytime.
"Anyways, I leave the defeat of the Vampire Lord in your capable hands. I will try to aid you in whatever ways I can, but my power is rather limited in my old age. Once I get them, I will be able to sell you supplies for base cost. As much as I'd like to give them to you, it does cost me to acquire them and ship them here in these unusual circumstances. With that, I shall go check up on the wards. They will not hold forever, but they should last a good while. A few months if a bit of luck." Shiomi bows and then slowly walks over to the door, leaving you all to your own devices. The priest, on the other hand, stands there fiddling with his fingers nervously.
