Mathias kept his hammer at the ready. "We move onward, we're not here to chase mere spawn about the woods. The sinful dirty heathens are created by their master. Kill the master and the number of spawn will dwindle. Besides, if there are spawn freeroaming, then Rouen will need our assistance a fair deal more urgently than I had anticipated and we could spend days attempting to cleanse the woods to no avail." Mathias shakes his head and mutters under his breath: "Monsters having free reign in the woods... this does not bode well. The sooner we can restore light to these lands, the better. It'll make the 'clean-up' all the easier as well."
With that said, Mathias inspects the remains, looking for anything of value or of significance (such as a badge of office or a picture of a family to inform their kin of their fate). Regardless of his findings, he carries on after taking anything worth taking along.

When you inspect the remains, you find only tattered peasant clothing. It seems that they were nothing more than simple townsfolk. You get this feeling that they were patrolling the woods as scouts. A very disposable scouts.
Once you guys continue down the path, you finally reach the town. Rouen is quiet. You see nobody in the streets. Many of the houses have boarded up windows. Very few have lights on, and even then they're very dim. In the distance, you see a building that resembles a church.

"Ah, what a... quaint village," Renard remarks, plucking a copper piece from his pouch. "Since I see no peasants or monsters flocking out to see us, it would be best if we knew whether or not we are alone. Fortunately," he adds in a lower voice, to keep invisible ears from easily overhearing, "I know of the perfect way to divine the presence and intentions of any strangers."
(Cast Detect Thoughts. As we stroll towards the church, I walk slowly and carefully, turning towards the buildings on either side of me. When I detect the presence of thought (anything with an Int score), I pause for two rounds, picking up the number of thinkers and their Int, then their surface thoughts (DC 15 Will for them to keep their thoughts secret). If I catch the thoughts of something unusual, or someone with a higher Int score than me, I alert my comrades for their knowledge. I do this until my duration runs out (6 minutes).)

Keeping a hand on his whip, he stays a good 10 feet ahead of Renard, allowing him to do his thing until he finds something. "Lets just hurry up and make contact with whoever we are meeting here, and be on our way. I'd like to get this started. I find these kinds of missions take forever, so the sooner we get started the better."

Mathias smiles although it's evident it is strained after seeing the poor condition of the town, "Ever-eager to plunge into the jaws of evil and darkness aren't you Leon? Still, let us proceed to the church and inquire as to the condition of the town within. If the church is still sacred, it will be the largest deterrant to the evil plaguing this land and will thusly contain the most information while providing us a good idea of the condition of these people." With that said Mathias restores his hammer to his back, and walks onward towards the church, keeping an eye out for anyone nearby... man or monster alike.

Renard's detect thoughts picks up a number of minds throughout the town, all thinking their normal, scared shitless peasant thoughts. As you get closer to the church, you sense more people. Once you get within range of the church, you detect about half a dozen minds. From what you can gather from their thoughts, all but two are adventurers, one is a priest, and the last you just can't pick any thoughts from, but the presence is there.
Upon entering the church (since I'm going to assume you will), you see 6 people. The four currently sitting around a long table (unless they specify otherwise) are adventurers [ooc] AKA the rest of the party that missed the opening boat [/ooc]. A priest with gray hair was pacing back and forth, and just now stopped once he realized who you were. At the back of the room, looking over a book is a graying black haired man with glasses and holding a staff.
The priest quickly walks up to you. "Ah, finally. We've been expecting you. Please, come in, quickly now. I'm afraid more of those vile creatures may show up this night."
[ Dave, Nate, Ben, and (when I finish things up) Chrissy, you may introduce your characters and act as you wish. And yes, you did read that right, I managed to get Chrissy to join. Please bear with her as she learns the system (I'll admit I'm a crappy teacher) ]

"Really?" Leon says with a bit of a smirk. "And here I thought We'd scared them off. Perhaps I should wait outside.. You know, act the part of the scarecrow, unless of course Mathias here actually wants to do something this time." With a Devilish grin to Mathias, he bows his head slightly to the priest and enters the church. Moving to the altar he kneels down in front of it, his head bowed, his hand near his neck holding a medallion hanging from a silver necklace. "In Nomine Patris, Et Filii, Et Spiritus Sancti. May Deus rector meus manus manus in illa , suus officina , quod servo qui operor suus bidding. Amen." (OOC: If someone has a better latin translator, please let me know.. this one sucks..) Crossing himself he stands and moves over to join the others at the table.

The fiendish man sitting at the table looks up from the metal box he's been examining to see the newcomers. At the small chatter and prayer, he scoffs. "Maybe these newcomers will have steadier hands than the others." With that, he puts the box into a pocket in his clothing and leans back from the table, sitting up straight. "Maybe."

Perking his ears up a bit as he approaches he smiles at the devilish looking character sitting up straight. With one hand calmly and casually resting on his whip, he leans down, left arm rigid with his knuckles resting on the table leaning against it. With a grin and a twinkle in his eyes he stares at the creature. "Care to find out just how steady my hands are good... Sir..?" With that, and without even taking his eyes from the creatures, he draws the whip from his side, smoothly uncoiling it and sending it lashing out to a candle in the nearby window, neatly flicking the flame and putting the candle out, otherwise disturbing nothing, before smoothly cracking the whip slightly as it coils back into his hand and hooks back at his belt, his hand going back to rest. "Leon Belmont, at your service. And you are?"
[OOC] Third Hand from lasher lets me do silly shit like that, very easily. If there are any problems with it or someone really wants me to make a check or something, let me know.[/ooc]

As the trio enters the church, Renard keeps the spell up long enough to catch any stray thoughts, then releases it. "Bonsoir, Père, though under the circumstances, that may not be appropriate," he greets, removing his feathered cap. His eyes wandered over the seated adventurers, pausing in startlement at the Herculean man's eyes, narrowing at the sight of the fiendish man, easily passing over the cloaked priest, and roving appreciatively over the scarlet-haired woman.
The magister sits in the chair across from the female, glancing suspiciously at the oddity. Then, he closes his eyes to recollect on what information he gleaned from his spell.
(What information did I get from my spell? I pick up surface thoughts on a failed Will save, so I'm going to use that to figure out the general situation, see if there are any unusual thoughts. Also, what are the Int scores of the two other men? I figure that the man in the back had a strong enough mind to keep me from reading his thoughts.
Dave, Ben, Nate, Chrissy... Will saves from all of you, so I can get a general idea of your character.)

Tobias sits rather calmly, seemingly unphased by anything around him so far. He silently watches everyone, trying to get a feel of his future "companions" and deciding how he should act before he does so.
[to sean: I don't nat 1, and therefore I make your save.]

[ooc] I make the will save. [ooc]
"I hope they are over all more competent than the others." The tanned man's expression does not change. In his chair he sits perfectly straight. He keeps a deadly serious face as he eyes the new comers.

His eyes flickering momentarily towards the tanned man he shakes his head slightly before focusing back towards the devilish man. "So very nice of you to talk about us as if we were not even here. And I'm so glad you were civil enough to introduce yourself. I do so love working with such civilized folk, wouldn't you agree Mathias?" He is obviously slightly tense at the rude (or that is the way he interpreted it) reaction of the tanned man, not to mention slightly taken aback by one with the looks of the devilish man being here. It is clear that, without any information yet forthcoming the only thing staying his hand is probably the fact that the creature is indeed let in the church, and therefore probably not evil.... probably. (The last bit is VERY clear to Renard who probably caught Leon in the detect thoughts, and I nat 1'd, so yeah. Hes very on edge with the demonic looking fellow, and very agitated with the rude reactions.)

With a sigh, the man in the back snapped his book shut. Picking up his staff off the wall, he stands and leans heavily against it. He slowly walks over to the table, but doesn't sit down. "Alright kids. You're here to do a job, not bicker like children. I'm sure you're just antsy for some action, so let's get to business." Now that he's closer, it's easy to get a better look at the man. Despite his graying hair, he doesn't look all that old, late 30's by human standards. He wears a black cloak over his charcoal robes. A silver pendant hangs from his neck, bearing an emblem that you've never seen before (Knowledge Planes DC 35 if you want to prove me otherwise). The man speaks up once again. "I am Shiomi Yoshio, second Wing of the Anarchy Cross and head of their R&D department. I do not expect any of you to know about me, and that is fine. I'll leave the rest about me for another time.
"You seven have been assembled for this task, for whatever reasons that brought you here. All of you are here to deal with the Dead Apostle, or Vampire Lord by your terminology. I, and the village, do not care how you slay that monster, just as long as you do it. At this point, you're free to deal with the castle as you see fit, but I have one request." The mage looks over at Devin. "You mentioned a sealed gate earlier, did you not?* I want the lot of you to clear a path to that gate for me. I will investigate it further myself. Once you get there, I want you to notify me with this." He tosses a black stone onto the table. Most of you recognize it as a Sending Stone. "Once you have done so, just leave the stone there. I'll use it as a beacon to help me find the gate. Now then, you are free to go. Try not to make me wait long."
* Dave, Nate, Ben, and Chrissy, you 4 have been in the castle before, if only for an hour or two. During that time, some of your other party members were killed (mostly hirelings), and thus had to retreat. During your short incursion, you encountered a sealed gate, with 8 symbols. You 4 have a good idea how to get there again, but you believe that more monsters have replaced the few that were there a few days ago. It's not very far into the castle.
