[ooc] My bad, I thought you meant that passages split off in every direction, its just that big of a cavern... Fun. Well, my post stays about the same.[/ooc]
Kin lets the dwarf lead, staying back himself. "You seem interested in being up front, go right ahead. We need to be efficient in our exploration however..."
[ooc] I'll post this quickly as I have less time and don't want to think out how Kin might say all this. He is a much better military tactician than I and would state things in a different way... In any case my thoughts on exploration are as follows: I say we travel approx. 20-30 feet away from the wall, giving us the most space to see the cavern itself, but still keeping our bearings with the wall. Traveling around until we come across something. If people want to spread out a bit, thats fine, but no further than our visions can keep us within sight of each other[/ooc]

[ooc] Right.. I should probably post. Sorry. [/ooc]
Deciding on a course of action, the party heads off, Following along the left wall, keeping it within sight range of their light, if just barely. As you all move along, it seems earilly quiet, the only sound the occassional drip of water from a stalactite onto its corresponding stalagmite. The left wall curves around at a soft angle, for about 400 feet or so. Angrimm realizes that it is also ever so slightly slanted downward. Finally your light reveals another wall coming at a right angle from the wall you have been following. you realize that the entire room is a giant semi-circle, 800 feet wide at its base. The entrance was at the apex of the circular part of the semi-circle. As you round the corner to continue following the wall, Cedrich and Kin both notice a bit of movement by a group of Stalagmites about 20 feet away. Cedrich thinks that something is moving among the stalagmites. Kin realizes, in time to warn the rest of the party not to approach, that it is one of the stalagmites itself that is moving.
Knowledge Dungeoneering to identify. And initiative please, just to make things easy to figure out what happens when here.

Initiative: 14 + 5 = 19
Up to this point, Kin has been counting his footsteps and making mental notes of the room. When they come to the hard turn in the cave wall he takes a quick break to right down his notes on the parchment.
When they see the movement, Kin stops and trains his rifle on the shapes in the distance.
"Watch out, those can't be normal cave formations..." he says quietly to the others.
[ooc] Kin doesn't have Knowledge dungeoneering, just nature, geography, and local. I didn't see him as a cave goer before the game started, looks like I'm going to be picking up a few ranks in dungeoneering once we level >.< [/ooc]

Initiative: 11(ouch)+4=15
Cedrich Checks the rear quickly to make sure they are not about to be ambushed and flanked then snaps WarWolf to his shoulder.

Dio realizes that the creature the others saw and pointed out can be nothing other than a Roper. Just as he starts to warn the others of what to watch out for, 4 long strands strike out from the seemingly harmless (now) piece of rock. Cedrich, Kin, and Angrimm are all caught by one of the super strong strands. Dio, knowing what to look for, manages to just barely dodge out of the way of the strand that was shooting for his chest. The three that are caught get drug 10 feet closer to the creature, which has clearly become a creature and not a chunk of stone, its maw opening wide to show rows of sharp teeth, extra tentacles flailing slowly around its body.
I need Fort saves from Cedrich, Kin, and Angrimm. The three of you are being drug forward and can escape with a successful strength or Escape Artist check, or by destroying the strand.
Other than being drug forward and held from moving anywhere but directly towards it, your actions are uninhibited.

Fort: 11+7=18
Cedrich Lets Warwolf fall back to its slung position grabbing his Great Scimitar. He Slashes at the Strand wrapped around himself.
Quick Draw Great Scimitar. Attack: 19(crit)+10=29 16+10=26 (confirm) 6+4=10 Dmg (add another 3+4=7 if they are crit-able)
[OOC] Quick question was it a single roper with 4 strands or were there strands coming out of the darkness signaling multiple adversaries?[/OOC]

[OOC] 4 strands whipped out from the single Roper. [/ooc]
The strand severs, snapping back into the Roper's body before quickly slinking back out to join the other strands that wave free around its body.
[OOC] Nice fort save. just barely squeeked by there. [/ooc]

Fort Save: 15 + 6 = 21.
"Eeaaugh" Kin grunts in disgust at the sudden assault. "Foul mutant beast."
Kin swings his rifle, using the bayonet to try and sever himself from the strange creature.
Atk: 18 + 6 = 24, Dmg: 5 + 3 = 8 piercing
[ooc] Looks like this guy really beat us on Initiative... How far away were we when we noticed this? I'm interested in knowing how long I have before I'm up close with ugly [/ooc]

The strand attached to Kin bends and tears a bit as his bayonet strikes it, but manages to maintain its integrity, if just barely.

Angrimm's head jerks forward as the roper's tentacle becomes entangled in his thick beard, dragging along the dwarf with an unnatural motion across the floor of the cave. The dwarf manages to keep a grip on the leather haft of his warhammer despite the pain. He brings his arm back behind his head, a soft glow encompassing his weapon as he brings it down in a powerful overhead swing, attempting to smash the tentacle against the ground.
[OOC: Fort Save = 10 + 8 = 18 (20 if it is poison) Initiative = 1 + 2 = 3
::Crusader Manuevers:: Readied Today: Crusader's Strike, Foehammer, Mountain Hammer, Shield Block, Stone Bones 1st Round Granted: Crusader's Strike, Shield Block, Foehammer
Standard Action -> Activate Foehammer and attempt to smash the strand gripping him. Attack Roll -> 4 + 10 = 14 Damage -> 6 + 8 + 5 = 19 bludgeoning damage but ignores DR
Move Action -> If I break free, Angrimm will continue approaching the creature with his shield between it and himself.

The tentacle wrapped firmly around the dwarf's beard, and partly around his neck, undulates and deftly avoids and deflects the strong blow from the dwarf's heavy hammer strike.

Dio stands quietly at first, having deftly dodged the strand sent his way. "A Roper! Hah! What a thing to see here." Dio looks, are there any objects directly behind the Roper (within ten feet)?

There are a few actual stalagmites a few feet behind the thing. It seemed to be using them to help blend itself into the surroundings earlier.

Dio pulls back a fist, blue magicks swirling around it before he surges forward with a straight-punch that sends a visible blast of force hurtling towards the roper.
Ranged Touch Attack: 17+7=23 to hit Opposed Strength Check: 20(!)+4 = 24
If it hits (using the Pulse ability by the way) and my strength check beats its own, it is pushed back 10 feet and falls prone. If it hits a Stalagmite (which I'm hoping it will based on what you said) both it and the stalagmite take 1d6 damage and it falls prone in the square preceding the one where it contacted something else. (See Character Sheet for Dio for full spell description).
