Appearance: The man before you would blend into a crowd with no difficulty, so little does he stand out. His clothing is worn in a traveler's fashion, with a modest, utilitarian cut to his hair. Only when he removes his traveler's cloak does he reveal what sets him apart from other men. On his arms is tattooed an intricate design of strange patterns, recognizable by some as a traditional Varisian design to augment his magical prowess. Also noticeable when the cloak is pulled back, Jubaul has two plain-looking starknives somehow attached to his belt, along with brigidine mail to protect him.
History: Born to the nomadic ways of his people, Jubaul had a simple childhood. He showed some promise in the mystic ways of his people, and his parents nurtured that inborn ability, channeling it toward productive uses for the family. While his family may have pushed him toward this end, the boy himself was not so interested in the arcane arts. So, although he became proficient in the things he was taught by his people, young Jubaul found himself drawn away from his studies. He tried to learn to play the flute, but with no tutor, he never became proficient with it. He tried to travel on his own several times, but his family always would find him before a fortnight was over. Finally, he began to read to get away from his studies. This was permitted (as it was seen as a good thing for a promising mage to do), and the boy learned quite a lot. He even became willing to be tattooed with the ancestral tattoos of his people.
As soon as he was old enough to go out on his own, Jubaul left his family. He traveled to the great city of Magnavar to find training from cultured people. What he found changed his views on magic forever. He was taken in by a cleric devoted to the goddess Desna. From this man, he was taught about the world, and his place in it. He learned that he shouldn't reject his gifts with magic, but should find a way to help people with it - exploring and protecting that which he found. He realized what he missed out on growing up, always rejecting what his parents had tried to instill in him. He decided to go traveling, as his people were wont to do, and see the world, learning about all the people and things out there.
