Initiative: +4
Speed: 35 ft/x4
Appearance: Standing at a rough 5'8", Artorus is a generally good looking man. He has straight black hair that he keeps at shoulder length, with bangs just covering his forehead. His eyes are green and seem to almost glint in any amount of light. On his forehead hangs a small pendant tied there by a silver chain in his hair. The pendant seems to be carved in the shape of the eye of a bird of prey. His facial features are very chiseled, almost elf like but with a harsher quality that makes him unmistakeably human. Clean shaven he stands proud, a look of utter confidence gleaming behind his eyes.
His armor is made of the purest mithral and forged by masters without compare. It has been specially designed and enchanted to cover him in a sheet of metal while keeping from hindering him in the slightest. The armor seems to almost be conformed to his body so well made is it not barrel chested and bulky like most plate mails. It is a very sleek work of art that shows not the slightest mar in its finish. On the chest is an engraving of a phoenix rising from the grave, its wings spread out across the chest and down the arms, all in reds and orange almost as if real flames were dancing along his chest. The phoenixs head is turned to the side as it rises, and where its eye would be is a single red ruby that glints in the light.
Strapped to his back at all times is a simple light shield, under that is his sword and its sheath. The sword seems at first glance to be a longsword, having the correct length to be one. At second glance it seems to almost be too light for a longsword, and thinner. It is in fact an Elventhinblade that he has named Marsil. Its blade and hilt show not the slightest sign of tarnishment, and the blood red ruby set into the cross piece almost seems to pulse from time to time with an intent of its own. spread down the pommel from the ruby are an array of other gems covering every color of the rainbow, 7 gems in all, the blue sapphire capping it out at the hilt. The gems are set into the hilt expertly, so as not to hinder the grip on the weapon. The blade itself is very finely edged, as all elven weapons are, and always seems ready in the blink of an eye.
History:
As Chornicled in the Histories of the Thirteen Jade Phoenix Master:
*Text not in Italics is writing in the margins of the book, seemingly written by Artorus himself in his personal copy of the aforementioned book*
Methuselah. Yonsin. Gregorus. Issac. These names and more chronicle the histories of the soul of the Jade Phoenix Master whom was first known, and most recently known, as Artorus Merzing or "The Glorious Phoenix." In his past lives it is known that he has always wandered the world, his weapons never far from hand, and attempted to help where he saw fit to do so. Ever active in searching out other reborn Masters to restore their memories to them, and ever the quickest to regain his own power, Artorus has been one of the largest driving forces in the continuance of the Jade Phoenix Mages and their quest. Although little is known as to the origins of the beast they are said to have imprisoned long ago, as long as the Thirteen of them survive, ever being reincarnated and reawakened by a living master, the entity will stay imprisoned... or so it is said.
A few interesting things to note about The Glorious Phoenix. A telling sign that it is him is his weapon, Marsil. While it takes different forms depending on his current incarnation it always seems to have the same properties. It is unknown whether this is because he has it made to do so each time he is reborn, or if he is truly using the same weapon and it is changing to meet his needs. It is speculated that the first one is true. Regardless of which of these is true the following can be said about it: If bladed it is very keen edged, striking vitally with many a blow; When it strikes it is said to feed off the life energy of the living; It is capable of releasing an effect similar to what has become known as a Prismatic spray, releasing a rainbow of colors down its blade and into the target, striking said target with a random assortment of effect(s).
Moving onto a History. In his first known incarnation... The book goes on for some time, speaking of his past lives. Inane chatter mostly. Delusions and guesses and fairy tales. What is fact is buried so far deep into fantasy it is nigh impossible to seperate the two. Skip ahead to the last chapter for any real facts.
And finally we come to what, at the time of this writing, is his current incarnation. Once again taking the name of Artorus Merzing, although few have given him the name "The Glorious Phoenix" as of this time, he was born to a rich family. Never really for want of anything as a child he was very spoiled, allowed to study as he wanted, when he wanted, where he wanted. As he grew he decided he wanted to study magic. He found he had a rather knack for it, as spellcasting seemed to come naturally to him, which was good as he never really had the patience to sit and memorize spells from books like the wizards his family hired to train him.
When he turned thirteen his family sent him off to a military school for wizards warmages. Over the next several years of his life he was worked very hard, losing the prissy spoiled attitude of his youth, and growing into more of a soldier. Upon graduating the academy, he set off into the world instead of returning to his family, determined to see more of it. more like determined not to deal with my family anymore...prissy swine. If anything I only want to go back to free the slaves they keep. With him went a friend from the school, a young man by the name of Yensen. Ahh Yensen... such a tragic life you had. So young. Perhaps I shall meet your reincarnated soul one day. During the next year they traveled, trading bits of training: Yensen showing the young Artorus the rudiments of swordplay, fancying of course the Elven Thinblade, and showing him to the Sublime Way. In return Artorus gave Yensen a better understanding of Magics. Not nearly enough to cast any but the most basic of spells, but enough to help him recognize spellcasting and identify spells, so as to know what he was facing.
At the end of this year of travelling a grave thing happened. grave indeed. It ended with many a grave. The pair of them wandered into a village. Unfortunately for them they were unaware that this village would soon be the center point for a fight between the forces of two of the Dragons of the great game. It is actually unclear whos forces were involved, as few survived the slaughter of being caught in the middle, and those who did were either too scared to notice, or too smart to talk about the movings of the great dragons. Merendeem'an and Deszeld I believe.. but I could be wrong. Caught up in the fight the pair of them found themselves, being honorable men, defending a local orphanage. The children had been caught inside the small one room shack, and the pair of them defended the doorway valiantly, back to back swords in hand, with spells flying from Artorus's freehand. As the battle waned they thought they had managed to fight everything off until, as luck would have it, a happenstance shot from a catapult came sailing through the air slamming into Yensen and then into the building, causing the ceiling to collapse. The shot just barely clipped Artorus but sent him flying several yards, where it is believed impact with debris on the field, probably the remains of an armored body, knocked him unconscious. Armored body indeed... Body of armor is more like it.. God be damned Warforged.. The next we hear of Artorus he is in the employ of Atarvalkkan. It is assumed he was found on the battlefield by one of the Masters, whom is or was probably in the armies of Atarvalkkan. He has been working for him ever since, growing in power quickly as is his usual once he remembers his past, quickly working his way back to his previous power level. As of the writing of this book he is almost to the complete Jade Phoenix Master, as of yet to master the Emerald Immolation technique. It is unknown exactly which of the other Masters awakened him or why he is working for Atarvalkkan.
Assumptions and gibberish at the end. Mostly true though garbled. Was found on the field by a Master. Spent a year in seclusion with him in training. Left seclusion when he died of heart failure. What a way to go for such a learned Master. I will be sure to keep an eye out for him in his next life in particular. Morin Leirkesh was his name. Having been told by Morin that Atarvalkkan was worth working under, powerful and strong and fairly easy to work for as long as one was strong of arms and able to take orders (Which I was used to, being of military upbringing) I went and pledged my service to him, offering up my sword, the basis of which I had spent much time while in seclusion working on. Over the years I have enchanted it to be what it is, but the blade, good and strong, is of my own hand. Accepted I joined his service and have been working my way up his ranks steadily. Only recently have I made Exarch. And my company is interesting to say the least.... We shall see what the wheel has in store for me next...
