It all started with a weapon smith who longed to make the perfect weapon. In particular he was a dwarven craftsman and priest. He devoted his life to making the best weapons he possibly could. For a few hundred years he made weapons of perfect craftsmanship and power. Over time, though, he started lose his desire to create these simple tools and longed to leave behind a legacy. The idea came to him that the weapon he was destined to make needed to be more than items wielded by others. It needed to have its own intelligence and will and to be able to adapt. He stopped forging weapons for others and began working on designs for his perfect weapon. For the next several decades he researched, studied, and worked on schematics for his ultimate creation. After he came up with his design and figured that materials from this plane would not be suitable for his creation. Several more decades passed as he collected the materials with which to build his creation. Construction of his life’s work was the final step. Many more years passed while he built and constructed his perfect weapon. Finally it was done. He had created a masterpiece and for a while he reveled in its glory. He taught it about the world, its purpose, and many useful skills. Unfortunately, the master craftsman’s age caught up with him and he died just a few short years after creating his life’s work.
This left his creation in the world alone. The one person who knew him better than he knew himself was dead. He was a weapon and killer without direction. After his creator dying on him started to learn about life. He studied the creatures that inhabited that this world into which he was brought. He found that most were fragile and weak. There were some though that challenged him and some still that were better than him. If he was to be the best weapon possible he would need to be able to kill all of them. He began to hone his skills, but he still had no master. After what had happened to his creator, he would not allow himself to get attached to another mortal the same way. In this world though lone killer can only make it so far on his own.
One day a warrior and smith came across the killer doing battle and saw that he was not flesh but metal. The killer was not a construct for movement and actions betrayed intelligence and free will. He was impressed by the killer’s battle prowess and with the build and craftsmanship of the body of the living weapon. He approached the killer and tried to talk to him but he was ignored and shunned. The warrior challenged the construct to a fight on the spot. The killer accepted knowing that he could beat nearly any mortal in a fight. The fight was not long and did not go the way the killer had planned. He was quickly bested by the warrior but his life was spared. “When you are worthy, seek out Atarvalkkan and bring a tribute crafted by your own hands.” With that the warrior left.
The killer spent next few weeks thinking. Thinking about things such as who is this Atarvalkkan and how does he command such powerful followers. After much thought, the killer decided to seek out Atarvalkkan and find out more about him. First he needed a proper name. He decided on Rowaru the Weapon. He then set out on his journey, along the way crafting an item he thought would be a proper tribute to someone who has such power devotees. When he finally found Atarvalkkan’s court, he presented his item. A masked helm made to appear as and honor his creator. Rowaru was accepted and became a follower of the Armored Dragon.
