Appearance:[without armor] Rychar is a largely built man, if man you can call him. His skin is a patchwork of gray, with human-like skin merging into patches of rough scales. To the top of his head, Rychar stands about 6'3", but extending a bit higher than that are a crown of horns extending out of his head - they make a perfect ellipse around his head, all perfectly and symmetrically aligned. His eyes, likewise, are a dull gray-ish color, although they seem to burn with some withheld malevolence, like a slow and painful death approaching from a distance. All of this draws attention away from what one might normally notice about someone newly met. For instance, the hair of this Rychar is a large tumble of grey and black, as though he were aging to the point where his hair had started to turn color, but had yet to complete its task. Apart from these exceptional things, he looks largely as one might expect one who builds and trains with one's body to look. He carries very little, just a few items that le you know he must be a warrior or adventurer by trade. Of these, the only one that says much about him is the chain wrapped around one arm, which he seems unusually comfortable with.
History:At one time, Rychar was a famous Paladin in the service of Tyr, renowned for his valor in combat, and for his devastating use of a long weighted chain. He was known throughout - maybe not the world, but at least the church - as a valiant destroyer of all things evil and impure. However, sometimes the brightest light becomes the largest target. These were the days before Glasya, daughter of Asmodeus, came to rule over one ninth of Hell. In those days, she was still a temptress of both devils and mortal men. The details of the seduction are unimportant to the future of this man, but suffice to say - the woman got her way, and the man once known as the Chain of Tyr became the puppet of another master, or in this case, mistress.
So it went that Rychar saw not his own fall, but rather that the mighty Tyr had abandoned him. In his grief, he did all that was asked of him, even abandoning his own learning for the dark and foul methods used by the blackguards of the pit. His vision was so dimmed by this foulness that he spent many years working for the temptress that had bewitched him so.
New warriors are always recruited by those who need their services, and the church of Tyr is no exception. So it was at one point, that they sent out a cry for valiant defenders of good and light to put an end to the twisted life that had become of one of their own. One man answered the call, and with much effort came to the place that Rychar had come to know as his home. The battle was valiant, as both sides fought with a strength that comes only from gods and fiends of the netherworld. In the end, though, the forces of good and justice triumphed, as they must. The noble man did not end the dark fiend's life, though, but offered him another chance. This revelation that Tyr would still welcome him back after all that he had done was enough to overcome the former Paladin, and he took that proffered hand, and rose to his feet. However, the forces of corruption do not easily give up those they have taken, and before Rychar could shed his accoutrement's of evil, he had the life stolen from his body.
His twisted soul vanished, going off to the fate that it had earned in life, but before it became wholly a thing of Hades, the forces of good had taken a hold of it. They offered the broken man one more chance to prove himself worthy of their grace, and ripped the soul's new form from the bowels of death, planting the remade body back into the world to prove himself.
Notes:Since his rebirth, Rychar has rededicated his life to the destruction of evil, although it took quite some time for him to come to grips with his new state. He spent quite a few years in the monestary meditating, and for a time even thought that protecting the innocent could prove him worthy. Attempting to put a stop to his old mistress's plans, he even won an item of great power (if it ever works...). However, he has come to find out that only a great act of supreme goodness can do what he seeks...
