Appearance:
Before you is a robed figure with his back towards you. From behind he looks like a tanned human, around 5’8”, wearing a sleeveless robe. As he turns to face you, your attention is immediately drawn to his face. He is an incredibly hansom man with a clean shaven face and shaved head that looks to be in his late twenties. He is said to be the spitting image of his father but tell him that to his face and they could be your last words. His eyes look directly into yours and with his chin raised slightly he gives off an air of complete confidence if not arrogance. Your attention is then drawn to his arms. While one looks completely normal resting firmly on a wood and brass cane, it is his right arm that is most intriguing. Completely visible due to the lack of a sleeve, this arm appears to be made of a dark metal. While being completely metal from finger tip to shoulder, in shape it still looks like the arm of a human. His flawless deep blue robe is not fastened together and falls apart in the center allowing you to see he is wearing very fine traveler’s clothes underneath. At his belt is deadly scimitar looking to be of the finest quality. To his other side is a fine leather satchel and an equally fine pouch. As he moves his actions are sharp and swift.
This is obviously a disciplined and serious man, and that does not look as if he should be taken lightly.
History:
“YOU WORTHLESS WHORE!” a deep demonic voice screamed in rage. “I finally get one of you bitches pregnant and this is what you give me!? I wanted a son that was strong and powerful to rule next to me and you give me this crippled, misshapen meat bag!” Gareck takes a deep breath and stares at his newborn son for several moments while he calms his temper. “I guess anything is better than nothing.” Exclaims Gareck with disappointment as he points a large clawed finger at an old skinny man who was dressed in expensive merchant’s clothes and wearing a holy symbol of Waukeen. “You will be his tutor. Teach him well and you will get paid well.” With this Gareck stormed out. At this point in his life Gareck was much more demon than human. With all the experiments and rituals he had done to himself it had become nearly impossible to conceive a child at all let alone a normal one. He had been trying for almost a hundred years without success. Now that it finally happened it was not what he had imagined. The child was puny weighing only three pounds and was missing a right arm. It is for this reason that Gareck had very little to do with his only son.
Balkoth was a small and skinny child who spent most of his time reading books rather than running and playing. He was never allowed to do anything that might hurt him or worse, anger his father. His tutor saw to that. He had only a hand full of good influences in his life, which is pretty good considering he grew up among thieves, sorcerers, demons worshippers and other characters that a child should never be around. His mother, Terra, was one of these good influences. Other than the fact that she was incredibly promiscuous, putting it politely, she was a very kind and good mother. When he longed to be big and strong like his father she told him that knowledge and discipline would be his strength. Through all the chaos in his life Balkoth remained focused to become strong like his father, just in a different way. With the help of his tutor and possibly other forces, Balkoth became more intelligent than nearly everyone around him. Since there was no shortage of books on spells and arcane secrets that knowledge became his and he quickly became a powerful wizard.
Gareck was incredibly wealthy and Balkoth got whatever he wanted as long as money could buy it. But what Balkoth wanted was his father’s approval and love. It was this way until he was fifteen. Due to Gareck’s frequent absences’ Terra often went out or brought home friends. One night Gareck returned home, in a particularly bad mood, to find Terra with another man. He was furious. He first snuffed the life from the other man then in a fit of rage terrorized Terra. All Balkoth saw was a bright sapphire blast of eldritch power and his mother’s limp body slam on to floor of the hallway not ten feet from him. Next he saw Garecks large demonic form enter the hallway screaming horrible obscenities at his dead mother. Something inside Balkoth snapped. The one beacon of love and kindness in his life was dead and it was his father’s fault. His previous emotions of his father changed in and instant to hatred. Every fiber of his being screamed to take revenge, but he knew better. He had seen his father fight and he was powerful. If he attacked he would meet the same fate as his mother. Instead he quickly turned and left before he did something that would cost him.
After that Balkoth’s father disappeared. This time he didn’t return. After three years of his absence, Balkoth’s patience finally ran out. He had become a different person. He had become callous and bitter. Studying hard and trying to find the most powerful and efficient spells he could made him a force to be reckoned with. He left his father’s strong hold and took nearly all of his gold with him. Finding ways to make him self powerful enough to kill his father was his goal now.
His first task was to find an arm. This was difficult but using some of the techniques he picked up from his father’s disciples he eventually found out that the drow make powerful artificial limbs and a way to get down to get one. He hired and armed nearly two dozen men to serve as body guards on his way through the Underdark. It took nearly six months to get to Menzoberanzen but the lessons and experience he gained made the trip well worth it. While he was there he found an arm that would work perfectly. Not only was it perfectly crafted and worked flawlessly it was much stronger than his other arm. He also picked up more equipment and spells that would aid him throughout his quest. By the time he made it back to the surface he had less than half the force he started with but he got more than he had wanted out of the trip.
During the next several years he visited many places to increase his knowledge and power in the arcane. After a while he found out that the disciples of his father did not like that he took his fathers fortune and wealth. Trouble seemed to follow him where ever he went. This served only to hone his skills and increase his reputation. Gareck’s higher ups, mostly the sorcerers and demon worshipers, had the most to be pissed off about because they had an idea of how much money went missing. Balkoth thus became very good as dispatching casters. This gained him the title of “Mage Slayer” and his fame grew. Soon several organizations were hiring him to do specific jobs.
Though Balkoth is currently an assassin of sorts, he still quests to find and kill his father.
