Player name: Nicholas Wassmer
Character Name: Lameth Kaver
Aliases: Lt. Kaver (previously Cpt), The Light of Lathandar (Previous), The Darkened Light.
Race:Human
Classes: Paladin 5/Gray Guard 5
Alignment: Lawful Good
Occupation: Lt. in the third regiment of the Knights of Silver
HP:97
AC: 26, FF:25, Touch: 11
BAB: 10
Appearance: Standing at a fairly imposing 6'1", Lameth doesn't seem to be much of a fighter at first glance. Clad in simple clothing in hews of brown and green, he seems more like one who would live in a forest than someone who has spent their life defending the walls of a city. Over his clothing he wears a simple chain shirt, a light steel shield strapped to one arm, and a longsword, gleaming in silver, held in his right hand. The shield is very intricately carved with the Sun of Lathandar, marking him as a devoted to the Morning Lord. A cloak, hood down, hangs down from his shoulders to just above his boots, which seem to be marked with on the sides with what appear to be wings. A simple cloth sash, clasped by a worn holy symbol of lathandar adorns his waist. A simple pair of metal braces, etched with what looks to be entwined snakes decorate his wrists. The one odd thing that sticks out about him are his gloves, made of a bluish metal, they seem to be covered in a layer of frost, no matter the temperature of the surrounding area.
His light brown hair hangs to his shoulders, tied back out of his face in a simple ponytail. His blue eyes shine in the given light, reflecting an inner strength. Beyond his clothing, he seems well muscled, and, to anyone with the presence of mind to notice, he seems to always be balanced on the balls of his feet. Others of martial proficiency will realize he is a trained fighter..one who probably excels in his chosen style.
History: Born to a recently widowed mother, whos husband had dedicated his life to the service of the gods, his mother took him and moved to the frozen wasteland of Icewind Dale, where she believed she could shelter her young son from the world. He was raised there, the harsh environment in and around Ten Towns hardening him. By the time he was 10 he had taken an interest in the fighting ways of the Barbarian tribes in the Dale, whom had recently allied themselves with Ten Towns. One young tribesman noticed the youths interest in fighting and privately took him under his wing, toughening him and training him. By the time he was 12 he was among the toughest of the few children in the Dale. Then his mother caught sick. Within a few days she worsened and then, before a proper cleric could be brought, she died one cold night.
The next morning, after spending the night in tears outside their small shack, he was woken by the rays of the morning sun, rising around Kelvins Kairn, the one landmark in the Dale. As the sun rose, his eyes beheld the beauty of such an event. Thoroughly cried out, he buried his mother. The next few weeks were difficult for the young lad, suddenly having to support himself. One oddity though was the lad could always be found watching the morning sun.
On his thirteenth birthday, after a right of passage set by the Barbarian tribes of the Dale, he told his mentor he was leaving the Dale. When asked why he merely responded "I am called." Hiring onto a caravan headed for Luskan, he traveled down to Luskan, a few coins, a bit of supplies, and a sword, a gift from his mentor, strapped to his back. Only spending a few months in Luskan, before discovering that what he seeked was not here, he moved on, randomly hiring onto a caravan headed for the Jewel of the North...Silverymoon.
Upon reaching Silverymoon, the sheer size of the city overwhelmed the young man. His head turned every which way as the caravan traveled, his eyes searching everything, taking it all in in Awe....when suddenly his eyes locked onto something familiar..a giant symbol of a rising sun - the same symbol inscribed on the hilt of his sword. Stunned, he mindlessly walked from the caravan, his feet guiding him to the great steps leading up to the temple. Upon entering he was greeted by a priest. The old man at first told him he could not enter Lathandars temple armed. Holding his hand out he explained he would hold the young mans weapon while he prayed. The young man, hardly hearing, started to take the weapon and hand it to the old man, when suddenly the old mans gaze met the hilt of the sword and his hand dropped to his side. Ushering the young man in, and sitting him down he hurried away.
The next few days were a blur for Lameth, priests interrogating him, asking him how he acquired the sword, and many other questions. When the questions ended, the explanations began. He was taught of Lathandar, and the suspected history of the sword his mentor gave him. Deciding to stay in Silverymoon, and being offered a room at the temple, Lameth learned as much as he could about the Clergy of Lathandar. After a few months he enlisted in the Knights of Silver, as a way to make money to repay the kind priests. After a few months the Knights, thoroughly impressed with the young mans budding talents, set him to training with a man of great repute, a captain and Paladin to Lathandar named Morius. Over the course of a few years the man taught Lameth how to fight, and of the ways of Lathandar. When he could finally begin to match his new instructor, he was sent to rejoin the ranks, the Vows of the Paladin order of Lathandar fresh from his lips, his sword, now thought to be the great Hallower, strapped to his back.
Over the next 6 years he worked his way up the ranks of the knights, eventually becoming the Captain of a small contingent of the Knights. Then something terrible happened. An assassin was hired to eliminate Morius. Although caught in the act, he was not stopped soon enough, the hilt of the mans cruely barbed dagger sticking from Morius's Spine. In the aftermath the assassin was locked in the prisons of the castle, never to leave. Wanting to interrogate the prisoner, Lameth asked permission...only to discover that his code forbid him from such acts...even for the benefit of his cause. In a fit of rage the young man stormed to the cell, several guards following in the strong young mans wake, trying to stop him. When he reached the cell he spent several minutes simply pummelling the man, before picking him up and slamming him against the wall, demanding information. The prisoner, thinking himself to be clever, told the young man that the mans own superiors hired him. Lameth, too insightful for such, summarily crushed the mans windpipe, suffocating him before he could be pulled off.
When his deeds were heard he was to be banished from the order. When asked why he did not follow the code he responded, "The code is right when it is right. But sometimes the code prevents what is Just from being done by the Just. Good men must sometimes stoop low to do what is good and right." Most of the men at the hearing merely glared at him, but one man, Little regarded by the rest, stopped their ridicule walking from the shadows to stand next to the young man. "He will join the Third Regiment, and be demoted to the rank of Lt. I will take responsibility." With alot of glares, but surprisingly few arguments the others agreed.
He was then initiated into the ranks of the Gray Guards, those among the ranks of the Paladins in the Knights whom knew that some vows must sometimes be broken for the greater good. He has been with them now for the past 4 years. He was recently sent to head to Calimport to meet a contact, and gather information on a suspected murder. His last known location was Waterdeep.
