Nian's eyes narrow. ¥150,000? This seems to be more than it appears. He speaks in a calm voice, his Chinese accent barely showing in the English, eyes focused on the Johnson before him. "This seems to be an important mission to you, with all the preparation you offer us. Is it really only worth 150 to you? I would think that with something this important, you would want our utmost attention to it. Larger numbers in the black always help me... forget traumatic experiences like this is going to be. I'm sure my potential associates agree." His hands deftly motion to the men at his sides.

Mr. Johnson eyes Nian for a moment before tilting his head to look over the last member of the quartet. Cowboy's head dips slightly in confident agreement. The Johnson reaches inside of the Vashon Island suit jacket and removes a small circular metallic device which he activates and places in the center of the low wooden table. The highly sophisticated device seems out of place in the harmonious surroundings of the dining room, but in the shadowrunning business, every precaution can save your hoop. After placing the object, he leans forward slightly, forearms resting against the rounded edges of the table with aged hands folded together before speaking again.
"I suppose you all do have a considerable reputation in the shadows, and we wouldn't want anyone to hear you were undercutting the competition. No, I agree that this is an important job for everyone involved will increase my offer to ¥160,000, but any more and I will turn elsewhere."
Mr. Johnson eyes the runners and seeing that they have agreed to his second offer he continues with the details,
"Excellent. The flight for Chicago leaves tomorrow at 2:00 P.M. An associate with more details about the run will meet you at the Holland, Michigan airport. I have your itinerary. Your accomodations are a first class flight and luxury hotel. Call this number if you need equipment shipped--give them atleast four hours. Transportation to and from Chicago will be provided for you during the extent of the contract."
He pauses before turning to the briefcase laying on the floor next to them and removing a manilla envelope. This he places next to the device on the table and then waits a nanosecond before asking,
"Do you have any questions?"

Chicago? Frag. So that's what the catch is. Well, I guess that's why they say Tanstaafl. James sits up in his chair.
"Yeah. How big is this thing, and how many others do you know are after it?"

"¥160,000? Payment seems enough to keep a few mouths shut, but if there are other groups involved, we can use some heavier backup. How about you give us a bit of ordinance to help with your mission." Nian eyes the Johnson carefully. "Some more punch in our corner - especially given the location, and I think we have a deal."
After settling the deal, Nian has a couple of questions to ask about. "If we're going to Chicago, I'm going to need to have a better idea of what part. There are some nasty background pockets there, not to mention the bugs that live near them. Also, are there gonna be any problems moving this object? If it needs special care, like not being shot or dropped out of a plane, or the like, we should know." Chicago - great. But I need the money, so...

Mr. Johnson pulls a small black and red notepad from his pocket and scribbles a few notes as he listens to Nian. He sets the ink pen down, flips closed the notepad and returns his stern gaze to the assorted individuals with which he is sharing this exquisit dinner. He replies to their questions in the order they were asked, first tilting his head to look at James.
"I believe the object is being stored in a large crate, although one person alone should be able to transport it. Also, I know that the rumor of this discovery has been spreading like wildfire the last few days, and I can not be sure who has heard of it. Perhaps the location will scare away a few parties, and I can not even say for sure if you will have any competition. I would only advise that there is a possibilty of such."
He then turns to Nian and says,
"As for the assistance with some power, I will see what I can accomplish. The rest of your questions, I am afraid I do not have the answers to. There is a contact who will meet with you once you have arrived to discuss those details. Are there any other questions before we conclude here?"

Glancing at his new 'comrades,' Nian sees no one voicing any further queries. He reaches for the envelope on the table. "It seems we are concluded." Then, looking at the others, "I suggest we exchange carrier frequencies before departing. We should speak at length before the day is out, but this is hardly the place. We should meet elsewhere later. Is this to everyone's agreement?" He looks questioningly at the other runners.

"James" pulls out a pen and finds a scrap of paper or napkin, (whatever is available) and writes his comm info. "Yeah. Sounds good. You have a place in mind? Oh, and you can call me James, at least for now."

Phineus seems to be thinking before, "I have nothing further and I do agree with you." He writes down his information for both people and hands it to them. "Oh, by the way. You can call me Dr. Small."

After finishing his meal and whispering something to the waitress, Mr. Johnson reaches down and grasps the small white object on the table and pushes a button to disable it. He then places it inside of his briefcase. He waits for a moment, quietly watching the runners finish their meals and when the waitress returns carrying a long black woolen overcoat, he stands and accepts it graciously from her. He offers the runners a polite bow and says,
"It has been a pleasure doing business and I look forward to seeing your reputations in action."
After that, he steps out of the ornate dining room and disappears from view.

Well that was an interesting meeting. About what I expected from a team, though. Still, I've been with worse... Settling his skinlink into place, Sublime Lion flips through his list of contact numbers. Hmm... Who might be able to give me some intel here? Yeah, he might have been through there. Steve it is. Selecting his number from the list, Sublime Lion waits to see his friend's face again.
After a few moments, the other man answers. "Hello? Karl, is that you? Its been awhile this time." Karl asks him about anything he may have heard about traveling to Chicago - without giving away any details, of course. I hope he knows what's what there. I don't know if his business ever takes him to danger zones, but Chicago is one place with some major need of good Qi flow.
After a length conversation, and an unfortunate reply that they won't be in the same city anytime soon, Sublime Lion puts away his net interface, and concentrates on the task at hand. I'll have to make sure my garden is ready for the time I'm away - oh, and I should let all my neighbors know I won't be around; they can let me know of any suspicious activity when I get back. Hmm... that should be all I need to take care of then, other than getting my grenades and body armor to the shipping company on time. Alright, now I just need to relax until this mission, so I won't tense up at the wrong time. With that thought, Sublime Lion decides to get a good night's sleep tonight, and spend his extra time the next day in meditation on the proper flow of Qi - something that will soon be so wrong around him.

Chicago. I should have known. I have been wanting something new and this will certainly test my skill. I just hope the team as a whole will workout. I guess I'll find out more tonight.
It only took a moment to think of the person who could help him out here the most.
"Alice," the beautiful dwarves face appear in Phineus' view. "It might be just me but I think you get more and more beautiful each time I see you, if thats possible. I need some information. Tell me all you can on Chicago."
By the time the conversation and reminiscing are over, Phineus is at home. After the lovely conversation and hopes of getting to see his old flame when the mission is finished, Phineus starts packing. Phineus, you'd better go prepared for this one.

Outside The Peaceable Kingdom, Little Asia, Tacoma, Seattle Thursday 4/10/70 19:29:37
As "James" gets into his truck, he goes through his list of gear in his head, which is basically everything in his truck. I'll drive by this place. If it's open, I'll go ahead and have my stuff mailed, so it'll be there ASAP.
As usual, he'll have the bill sent to his other commlink ("Tony Castle"), which will automatically wire the money via two offshore banks, just to make it that much more of a pain for the feds to trace it to him.
He also notes that it's too short notice to special order anything here before the shipment goes, so if he needs anything else, he'll just buy it there, instead.

"Hoi Karl, it has been too long since we've spoken. I am afraid I have not been to Chicago since the early fifties, before the bugs and all of that. Even then, downtown Chicago had bad Qi. I talked to Master Tsai about it once and he believes the great fire long ago still taints much of the place. I'm sure everything Ares did hasn't done much to improve the background count. Be careful out there and look me up next time you are in Hong Kong. Here's the LTG for my hideaway, we've had quite a heatwave around here and even those who work the normal channels are concerned for their hoops. It's LTG-43A-4356-1. Password is Tortoise, wait two minutes and then ring again. Good luck."
Stephen's face had looked much older, lines beginning to deepen across his forhead and around his mouth. His black hair had begun to grey on the sides and his eyes had lost a bit of their luster. His voice. however, had been calm and reassuring.
Flügge, Johannsen & Lubinus , The Docks, Seattle Thursday 4/10/70 21:35:45
There was no vid-feed from the other end of the commcall, but the voice sounded professional. After a few moments, Sublime Lion's identity is confirmed to the male voice and an address arrives inside of a text box. It is a bit of a long ride down to the location in the docks district, but the body armor and grenades are packed quickly and securely.
Sublime Lion's Apartment, Downtown, Seattle Thursday 4/10/70 22:43:15 The rest of the evening passes quietly once the neighbors are aware you won't be home for a couple of days. Meditation and sleep coming easily to Sublime Lion that night. The following morning sunlight seems to have replaced the acidic rain that seemed to fall in endless sheets each morning for the past few weeks as dull gray clouds rolled endlessly into the Pacific Northwest.

"Phineus, baby, you are going to call me now and say you have a job with someone else? Oh, so you think you can just go to Seattle, hit the big time, and forget all about me? When was the last time you called? I'll tell you when! Its been nearly two months, Phineus. For all I know, you got creased by the mafia or have run off with some joygirl."
It takes a few more moments before she calms down and stops berating Phineus with only the voracity that a scorned woman can muster. She seems genuinely concerned and hurt that he hadn't called in so long.
"Look, Phineus, I'll help you with this one so that maybe you'll make it out of that drekhole in one piece, but you owe me big. Dinner in Paris and soon, and it had better be somewhere nice. I'll drop you a message with what I can gather in a couple of hours, you know what time it is over here? She hangs up the commlink and more than likely crashes once again back into deep sleep. She was still firey and quite beautiful and you know you can count on her to come through by the morning.

Flügge, Johannsen & Lubinus , The Docks, Seattle Thursday 4/10/70 20:05:37
Tracing the LTG number for Flügge, Johannsen & Lubinus isn't difficult. The building is red brick and deteriorating quickly. The same symbol on the card is painted onto a sign near the door, but no other mention of the name can be seen. A male ork with only capped silver tusks stands behind the counter sorting through a cardboard box. He stands up and draws Ares Predator from somewhere under the counter as you enter, but it just as quickly disappears from view again as if he recognizes your face.
"Hoi chummer, I almost slagged you. Thought they told you omaes to call before you came barging in. Look, just put what you need shipped in those green crates over there and I'll take care of the rest."
The crates he motions to are large, about three feet wide by five feet long and appear to hermetically seal when they are closed. It takes two crates to store all of the weapons and other gear that may raise suspicions.

Seattle Metroplex Airport, Seattle Friday 4/11/70 11:21:32
Getting through security was as easy as I recall it being when I used to fly first-class regularly. I do miss little comforts like that. Nian passes through the checkpoint easily and quickly, just as expected. He had come early in case any issues arose, though he knew that wasn't likely with such expensive accommodation. Still, it gives him plenty of time to take advantage of the other comforts first-class brings with it...
Friday 4/11/70 13:31:57 Coming out of the executive lounge, Nian walks quickly down the passageway a short way to his boarding area. He is allowed aboard the commuter plane immediately and takes his seat in the small section where his seat is located. He carefully arranges himself so as to have a pleasant trip, and then settles in for the flight's departure.

Seattle Metroplex Airport, Seattle Friday 4/11/70 13:42:05
The airport can be a dangerous place for a shadowrun team--but those fake IDs the J gave you make the trip through security null sweat. The team settles into a uncomfortable chairs near the gate entrance a few moments before a high-pitched female voice calls out, "Flight 4437 now boarding for Holland, Michigan." The team gathers up their carry-on luggage and walks down a staircase and out a large metal door onto the damp tarmac. The plane sits thirty meters from the door, not large enough to warrant the usual walkway. A large truck with a staircase attached to it provides access to the small commuter craft. Surrounding the team is a mix of other travelers, roughly twenty in all. They are a mix of metatypes containing orcs, dwarves, and a pair of elves in tres chic suits.
There are only four first class seats on the flight, and they are reserved for your team. The captain sounds profressional, with a thick East Coast accent, he gives the pre-takeoff speach as the door closes. Out of the small aircraft windows, the sky is dark and cloudy and a light rain is beginning to fall. Just as scheduled the plane is screaming down the runway and lifting off, the ground quickly disappearing beneath the clouds.
