Greetings everyone! It's taken me several months of work, but I've finally caught up on One Piece (which is awesome, for you action/comedy lovers out there, once you've taken out the 4Kids and put the blood and the cursing back in.) But now, as I sit and wait for the next episode to be translated, I begin to think: What if I found an anime that WASN'T 350+ episodes long? What if I found one that I could watch two, maybe four seasons of, and it's be done? So, after talking it over with a few people, I've decided to get recommendations from you people here. First thing first: I am a comedy fan, so if it lacks humorous scenes or some type of comedic relief, I typically don't like it as much. That's not to say that I think drama is stupid, but I gotta get a laugh from somewhere. Example? I LOVE Black Lagoon. Lots of action, lots of shooting, great story... and best of all, it's got it's moments where you bust out laughing, either cause some moron pissed off the protagonists, or they did something so awesome and so unexpected that it was just plain great. But it's not a comedy. And yet it's still ok. However, I would watch something like Samurai 7 over Black Lagoon anyday. Mostly cause Samurai 7 is made of pure win. But also because of Keku and the little girl. I still hear, "But I don't want Keku to die with honor!" running through my head every time I think of that. Echum, but I'm straying from the point. So I'll just list things here, and try to make it short. Phule likes: - Funny Stuff
- Action
- Plot
- being a secret romantic (ie, things like Love Hina are awesome, but I don't want furry hentai, cause that's too far.)
- Controlled Randomness (ie, FLCL, Azumanga Diaoh, Excel Saga, Slayers, but NOT Bobobo Bo Bobo)
- Samurai, Pirates, Ninjas, School Girls with Super Powers, Magic, and the OCCASIONAL giant robot
Phule doesn't like: - Anime that is difficult to find a torrent (with seeds) or direct download for
- Uncontrolled Randomness (see, Bobobo Bo Bobo as example)
- Gory, Creepy, or otherwise Monster Heavy with 'guts everywhere afterwards' anime
- Anime about 'sports'. (ie, baseball, basketball, tennis, card games that begin with 'Yu' and end with 'Oh', ect.)
- TOO MANY ROBOT SHOWS. They are all over the place, I know, and I'll watch the good ones. But I have no desire to watch the 7 out of 10s, just cause there's a big robot in it.
- things with too much sparkle too it. There is a limit to how much 'cute' I can handle before my eyes start to bleed.
I hope that gives you an idea of what I'm looking for. I'm also trying to find a good place to get Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, but so far, no luck. PLEASE help me get my fix!

Well, I will recommend the following from what I've seen for episodic content, a * will denote animes in which the manga was also excellent in my opinion. A }{ will denote animes or mangas still ongoing. A ][ will denote animes or mangas where they differ from eachother. TRIGUN * ][ (the manga is far darker than the anime, just a note) Outlaw Star (never seen any manga of it) Bleach * }{ Big O (never see any manga of it) Hellsing * }{ ][ (check out the original series if you want, but the "Hellsing Ultimate" OVAs follow the manga to a T whereas the original anime does not but the original anime is finished whereas the manga and OVAs are not) www.hentaiforums.net/index.php?c=12 believe it or not from the title, it's a great place to ask for things if you read the rules. There's very little that I've not been able to find there (and not just in Anime either! ;D ) www.bleachexile.com/ is a place you can read online all the mangas I've listed above (Hellsing, Bleach, TRIGUN) and you can also download quite a few episodes of varied series there (I know you can download every single Bleach episode) I'd highly recommend all the above series in the order listed above from top to bottom based on what you asked for. I'm sure you can just look 'em up yourself for a description and therefore saved myself some time talking them up when it's really gonna come down to your preference on 'em anyway. I can also hope that if you like Bleach we see some kind of Bleach game start up since I will openly commend you on the amazingly well captured feel of Naruto in your Naruto game (even if that series has gone to shit recently in manga terms, although the anime technically qualifies it hasn't "Gotten there" yet lol), you honestly make it feel like an official spin-off series and that takes talent. Hoping it doesn't go by the wayside like Anasylum as I'm truly enjoying it! Hope this post helps, if you wanna ask about a specific series hit me up on AIM and I'll detail 'em more fully there.

Well, after booting up my external which contains full 1-3 season shows (the other contains either around 2-3 episodes of a much longer show, or the shows that run for 26+ episodes) my list of recommendations is rather short... - Azumanga Daioh - best description I can give is Japanese High School girls meets Seinfeld. Its a show about nothing! but its all jokes and humor. The Seinfeld analogy stems from the extreme lack of overarching plot, time passes but there is very little about the story that moves from one episode to the next.
- The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya "Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu" - Most people have at least heard of it, its a pretty funny (and fun) show mostly because it can just be so random sometimes...
- Lucky Star - made by the same people as Haruhi, its a pretty random show about high school girls (there are so many of them aren't there?) this one focuses on an Otaku girl and her friends, most of the comedy in this one relates to how the otaku thinks... Its less physical humor and more about the wise-cracks the main character makes and how her friends react.
- Tsukuyomi Moon Phase - semi serious seeming at the beginning, and then the opening song plays. This is about a young vampire girl and her experience trying to convince a spiritually inept (and therefore immune to mind control) young man that he is her servant.
I don't know off-hand what you may have or have not seen... so all of these suggestions may be old and done with... I'm not positive about the torrentability of these (except Lucky Star which I downloaded with little trouble a few weeks ago). A few other titles that come to mind, but were not on my drive: - Genshiken - Literally: A show about a college student who joins a club that watches anime (their favorite is a school drama). This was especially ironic (?right word?) when my high school anime club watched it. Its very funny and I know I at least could understand the humor simply because its about what you are watching...
- Ok, so I didn't have that many other suggestions, it just so happens that I enjoy Dramas a lot...
- I'll try to update this list if I think of anything else.

I own the entire Genshiken manga set and to be perfectly honest you're better off buying the manga on that one, I've seen the anime but the manga is only 9 books and you can buy 'em just about anywhere (I've found them for sale at pretty much every book store I've gone to with a manga section). It's cheap and they're hilarious reads, you get alot more from the manga I think too because at the end of each book there's about a 10-page section explaining what most of the references they make are pointing to. That's just my opinion on that one though, not saying the anime is bad, just saying I greatly preferred the manga.

ok, but the question wasn't what Manga are good reads... it was what are some funny Anime you recommend... And yes, Anime adaptations don't always capture everything... and it depends on the subbers but the anime can just as easily explain all the references made ;D

Good suggestions. Let me clarify, however, that I have seen the awesome of Trigun, and laughed at Azumanga Diaoh, and have watched many of the good ones. This list is too long for me to think of them all, so that's why I didn't try.
But I'll look into a few of your suggestions.
And I'll probably read the manga on some of them. Because manga = better than anime, in my experience... which is why I'm looking for the more obscure, less known, but still good anime that I don't care to read (or find) the manga for, lol.
Anyone else?

Alrighty then... Time for the resident anime fanboy to rant and rave. First off, previous suggestions: Lucky Star and Genshiken are very much hit or miss humor. 'Specially Lucky Star. James suggests a lot of good, but older series (minus Bleach). Now for my list of suggestions: Macross Frontier - If you watched Robotech and loved it, or just want some good giant robot action, this is a good one to look into. It's airing now in Japan, actually. I'm keeping up with this one this season. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - the other giant mecha anime I recommend, and the one I recommend above Macross. Very unconvental style for mecha, very over the top style in general, funny most of the series and very awesome the entire way through. Same company that brought us FLCL and Eva. Oh, and lots of drills. Lots and lots of drills... Soul Eater - a well done action anime/manga. At first, it feels like a Bleach clone, but after a short while, it starts to have it's own style altogether, what with them dealing with witches, kishin (demons), and insanity. The fights are very well done, too. Clannad - for something completely different to satisfy your hopeless-romantic end of things (yeah, I'll admit that I liked Love Hina too...), this is a good one. Yes, it's based off of a dating sim/visual novel that oddly enough did not have hentai, but it's anime adaptation is well done. Manga I suggest (because sometimes the anime just sucks or it doesn't exist): AiKora (aka Love & College) - a weird one about a guy who loves not girls in general or anything like that, but instead the individual parts of women (boobs, legs, eyes, voice, waist, etc). Silly antics insue. Negima - Yes, it's the same guy who did Love Hina. Yes, both anime adaptations sucked horribly. But the manga's great. Great fights, silly humor, and plenty of fan service. If you can stand reading manga on your computer, I suggest using this site: www.mangavolume.com/I think that's enough for now. I'll add more if I think of it. -Max

Can't find Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann ANYWHERE for download. And I've tried!
Clannad sounds familiar, so I may check that out too... currently, though, I found a batch torrent for Fate/Stay Night, which I remember SOMEONE talking about, and from what I've seen/read, it looks interesting.
And ANYTHING done by Ken Akamatsu-dono is awesome, but yes, the manga is ALWAYS better in his case.

Just search for Gurren Lagann. You might want to try tokyo toshokan. It's good for older torrents. Otherwise, you might not be able to locate it because it did get picked up a couple of months ago by one of the dubbing companies. I fear for that anime greatly... Also, if you like Fate/Stay Night, you might want to look into the other 2 Type-MOON based anime: Tsukihime (I can hear James saying 'porkslope?' already...) and Kara no Kyoukai: the Garden of Sinners. The later is an OVA series based off of Type-MOON's novels before they made Tsukihime (which became a very famous hentai visual novel with a not very hentai anime). Very messed up stuff, and very philosophical and psychological (although it might be inaccurate in the later). I've enjoyed both greatly (although I like the original Tsukihime game better than the anime, even with its crappy hentai bits lol). Clannad is also based off of a visual novel/dating sim. Baka-Tsuki has a massive translation project that's mostly completed now of the original game, which you can find here. All in all, it's the best of the Key based anime, the other 2 were Kanon and Air. -Max

Okay, I just watched all of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann on youtube (27 episodes, all in JP with subs from a user named Luckykid8th or something like that) and I have to say, epic series. I place it high on the list of recommendations and if you say you can't find it for reliable DL, just search Youtube for it, I watched all 27 eps there, goooooooood shit. Huge thumbs up for this show. First new show in a while I've really thoroughly enjoyed.
