Despite lack of a better name, here is my introduction. Due to lack of motive and more importantly inspiration I still have yet to lay down a good World History for the campaign start, but I will continue to work on it and introduce it when it is ready. In the mean time I can tell you a few things that may allow for character creation.
Setting: Earth, as we currently know it (no major changes as of yet)
Time: 2020 AD (Thats 12 years in the future [Welcome to 2008!])
This will be a Hybrid game (at least to start), therefore you can make either a Faction or a Freelance Character. Rules-wise the difference is the types of items a character gets to pick from at the start of each mission (We will not currently be using the Stockpiling gear for Freelance characters). Obviously Roleplaying-wise this can have a larger effect. Remember this, Faction does not necessarily mean Government Peon.
A Faction can be anything from a Government Agency to a Cult (although for this game it would be a strangely well funded cult). As the exact history is still largely unformed, this means that if you want to be a Faction member of a special group, you can run it by me and I can thus form said group in some way.
A Freelance character can equally be a wide range of things, but most importantly realize that a Freelancer isn't really alone in everything, rather than having a Faction backing them, they instead have a network of friends and supporters. Effectively they still work for people, just not a single organization.
There will be a few special effects from the beginning, I will list them here and give reasoning. I will have an additional post which I will have for adding the current Campaign Qualities and Changes in rules.
- Linguistics Check: Sadly I think that it is fairly outrageous to effectively know every language in Western Europe through the use of one skill Focus. Therefore this rule will be in effect.
- Campaign Quality (Modular): This is by suggestion of the Near Future play style of the Spycraft Book. I am specifically adding this now because it basically only affects character creation. I will however be limiting the use of the quality. Max: -1 Feat or +2 Feats. This effectively represents advancement in Medical Technology and the like to help people become better.
As is always the case, try to keep things reasonable. Also for the case of character creation, everything is pretty much standardized so I don't need to cover much there, but bear in mind that this is designed to be a heroic game. It is preferable if the characters have some sort of reason to accept working to better the world. This could be anything from genuine interest in helping people, or merely working for people who have an interest in not letting the world get utterly destroyed.
