[This is a side thread for the characters in Arcanamirium that are in the Dueling League]
The morning of the first day of the weekend is a clear day with a warm breeze blowing from the sea. Ingrid and Hakner are standing in the grassy field separating the dorms from the rest of the school.
A tan skinned man in white Kelish robes faces you and a handful of other students at the Arcanamirium. "I am Majid Xerbystesi, an Arcanascenti. If you don't recall, you have signed up for the Dueling League. This group is the team combat group and over there is the Conjurer's Chess participants." In the direction indicated, you might see Ricneiros among other summoners.
"The rules of engagement are as follows:
Combatants first determine range. Of the three options, both teams eliminate one option so that one remains. The choices are short (30 ft), medium (100 ft), and long (300 ft).
Before combat starts, duelist might receive preparation time to cast spells.
The team that decided range last determines preparation time first in the same way. You may eliminate one of the three options; no preparation, a quarter minute (3 rounds) and a half minute (5 rounds).
Finally, open combat starts. Any spell that does not immediately kill is allowed. A team of healers are placed near the combatants to insure that participants do not die when they fall unconscious from attacks. After someone yields or is unconscious, they are relocated from the fighting grounds. The judges are strong magi, so wild spells that threaten medics or attendees are countered safely.
Any questions?"
