Deian moves silently with the group toward their destination. Always wary of his surroundings and with his bow ready should they be assaulted by an enemy of any sort.

"You all start west towards the outpost. I'll catch up in a minute. And no matter what, don't come back for me!" Ian will then start moving across town in the other direction, heading towards either the stables (the one we discussed James) or towards the captain if he sees him on the way to the stables. As he begins to move off, the shadowy dice continually roll over his shoulder, back to their original blue color.
If he finds the Captain first, he will request mounts for the group so that they can make haste to the outpost to the west to try to spread word and get more people to their aid.
If he makes it to the Stables first, he will talk to whoever is there and try to acquire mounts for the group.
(James, if this is an entirely fruitless endeavor, and Ian would know that, please let me know and you can disregard this. Otherwise I'm going to try to find us some damned mounts. Also, I'm moving as fast as I can, 40 feet in a move action, 80 feet a round, 160 feet when the way is straight enough to run.)

Sir Tolman Marca Proudfoot offers to keep the rearguard if they insist on retreating before the encroaching threat.
"I can catch up more easily than anyone else here, when the last of the villagers has left I will follow."
His mount continues to pace, ears back. The creature resembles a feral dog, although it does not appear close to any of the local breeds.

Calling over his shoulder as he moves away. "Stay if you want, but I'm only staying long enough to get us some transportation if I can. There's nothing we can do here except die, much better if we try to spread word and get help brought to the next town, where the refugees from here will be!"
[ooc] Btw, just curious but what do you ride? Don't think we ever got told. And just how fast is it? Can it keep up with the horses I'm hoping to get? Just a few points of curiosity. [/ooc]

[OOC: It's an elven hound. It's as fast as a heavy horse and at times, such as when he appeared, it moved very quickly indeed.]

Quickly as Ian is leaving Dom calls to him. "YO Grouchy!" He tosses him a small clay ball. "If you get into a pinch and need to stop people from following you toss this in front of them and Run!" [OOC note to me and the DM Double charge caltrop shot]

Snatching the item out of the air, Ian nods in thanks to Dom, and continues moving off.

Dom turns to the rest. "Well lets get moving, if we can at least make the cover of the trees the archers can provide the escaping population cover until Ian gets his butt back and we can get to the next outpost." He turns then as a second thought. "Also gather any equipment you might need on the way. I don't think we will be coming home... for a long time." With that he begins heading out.

As Ian starts to move across town, having just finished saying "You all start west towards the outpost. I'll catch up in a minute. And no matter what, don't come back for me!", the sounds of battle break out around you. The glow of unchecked fires and burning buildings begins to fill the night with smoke and soot. Swords clash and screams are heard as soldiers wearing black armor storm the walls, many slipping past the guards on the walls before they can even respond and some having snuck in before the guards were even aware there was danger. The guards are quickly being overwhelmed by the superior training and tactics of the invaders; getting attacked on all sides almost and cut off from each other. It does not sound like a battle, it sounds like a slaughter. Suddenly, a few people come running by with a metallic hound hot on their heels. There is a woman and two children, one child stumbles and the hound wastes no time savaging it before anyone can even react. The two other people keep running, the woman dragging the crying and bawling other child. The hound turns, staring at your group. It lets out a howl, no doubt signaling its fellows before advancing towards you, the blood of an innocent child dripping from its claws and teeth. Initiative Start!Unknown Invader foot-soldiers aided by small pets and hound-like constructs have begun their assault outright! City walls are breached and the invaders are inside! They are targeting guards and fleeing civilians!

With a gutteral growl brusting forth from his throat, Ian throws himself at the Metallic hound, bringing his longsword down savagely across the creature's head. "I thought we'd have more time than this! Curse these lawless fiends and their metallic Devils!" The dice tumbling along at his shoulder once again turn a blood red.

Dom mutters a curse turning quickly drawing a shot back firing it into the hound then drawing another arrow. "Kill it quick Ian or there will be far more then the blood of one child to avenge!" Dom watches for those the hound summoned, also checking the layout of the area they are standing in (trying to see if this is an alleyway, street, or open area; deciding if I could make use of some of my tricks to help cover the extraction.) Attack: 16+5=21 Damage:4 Initiative: 18+4=22

Deian lets out a deep sigh as he readies his bow, he closes his left eye and lines up the shot. He lets the arrow fly and readies himself to fire again.
Initiative: 14 + 5 = 19
Atk: 11 + 6 = 17 Dmg: 1d8 = 5
[ooc] Woo, constructs with DR, my favorite. If I'm remembering correctly, the skirmish doesn't apply against those so I have little to no chance of dealing damage... [/ooc]

Barth reactively throws a knife at the hound (6+3=9, 3 dmg on the unlikely event of a hit).
Initiative = 12
If we were outside of town: Barth takes off running and says, "We can't beat an army, let's bail!"
If we're still in the town: Barth, with an unnaturally smooth coolness in his voice, "If they're already inside, they know where the people are hiding. We need to get as many of them on the run as we can. That's where a distraction comes in handy." Barth takes off running to the building that the most people would have been hiding in. Hopefully, there's a back door and part of it is made of wood.
Either way, he is moving 80' a round.

"For Nidalee!"
The halfling whoops and hollars as charges the metal creature, steering the swift hound beneath him with his knees as he guides it instinctively. With the metal beast to his right, Sir Tolman lowers his lance and sticks the creature as he passes, a loud metallic PIIING resonates around the area. He then continues moving past the creature a short distance, spinning the hound to prepare for another pass immediately.
Initiative = 7 + 4 = 11
Ride Check = 8 + 12 = 20 (DC 10: Combat Trained for a Cavalier's War Mount?) Attack Roll = 16 + 5 + 2 = 23 to hit Damage = (2d6 + 6) = 7 + 6 = 13 damage for charge AC: 19 (21 - 2 for charging)

Ian, Dom, and Deian manage to catch the creature before it can attack, their vengeful blows together bring the creature down, the light in its eyes flickers and goes out. It has become inert. There is a moment of stillness, but it quickly passes, you can hear there are soldiers stomping around in charges and formations. Screams continue to pierce the night. Barth, you had no readied action to throw a knife, so you didn't, and you leave headed towards the town hall unless the others stop you. You, knowing the lay of the town, can take backroads to avoid patrols of invaders, but if you want to really avoid drawing notice I'll need hide checks. Move silently does not apply during a battle over the din of combat, screams, and fire. As you all start to move again, something blows past on a gust of smoky ashy wind, the flag off the top of the barracks, half burnt, lands nearby in another fire. You can see three soldiers walk out of a building far down the street in their black armor, two carrying shortswords and the third holding a crossbow. They each have the black hawk that Alcemedes called "The Night-Feather Hawk" emblazoned on them and their weapons as well. They have blood on them... likely from the inhabitants of the building they are leaving. They will likely notice the armed adventurers if you don't move out of here quickly. Suddenly, you all experience a strange dizzy spell, followed by a vision of a different location... it is so vivid you'd be sure it was real, it couldn't simply be a hallucination brought on by the smoke and shock of seeing the town besieged by invaders or atrocities such as the dead child... could it? It doesn't slow you down though, you can keep up with your actions. This is what you saw: - - - - - Elsewhere... - - - - - Two men stand on a hill outside of Heart-Stone to the North. Unlike the soldiers storming the town, these two stand proudly in suits of black full plate mail polished to an extreme degree. Both have helmets with sealed faces and a black hawk-pattern on the metal where their face would be. Blue energy courses through glass-like grooves and tubes in the armor giving them a faint glow, some of the tubes and grooves even pass into the visor of the helmet. Neither has a weapon anywhere on their bodies. The first turns to the second, "Is the town finished?" "Yes. It will not outlast the night." "Survivors?" "So far our soldiers are engaged in a Scourge. As many as we can kill shall die this night. Naturally there are always some... extras." "I wonder if They'll be able to react, be able to figure out the reasons in time to even slow us down." "Hmm...? Oh... you must mean..." - - - - - - - - - -
