After realizing that the churches services would cost him more than he had, he smiles ruefully and nods, purchasing a few rolls of gauze from the healers. "My apologies for wasting your time gentlemen, it seems my coin is lacking. If you will excuse me." Smiling at Lorania, he nods to her in a friendly manner. "If you have need of me, I will be around town somewhere. Cale looked like he was going to investigate this further, and I believe I will go see if he needs any help." Turning he leaves the church and heads just to the fringes of town. Finding a stump, he sits and removes his armor, fingering the gash in the Hide. Taking the gauze he purchased, he tightly wraps it around his body several times where the slice on his back is. Noting the large bruise, turning dark purple as he watches, on his chest from the punch he shakes his head as he slides his hide shirt back on gingerly. Standing, he stretches a bit before moving off back into town.
Finding Cale, he asks about what leads he may have in the investigation, and if there is anywhere in particular his help would be of assisstance.

Lorania does her best to sooth Ameiko while getting her out of the glassworks. She then accompanies Malik to the church out of sheer curiosity. After Malik leaves Lorania pokes around a bit, before deciding to return to the Rusty Dragon without the temple's healing. She decides to wait there, with Ameiko for a while.

Cale looks to Malik, "Perhaps you can help me find this 'Brodert Quink' and escort him here? I would accompany you, but when Tsuto wakes up I'll need to have a little chat with him, and aside from that: I need to be here to hear of any news from the guards. If Brodert doesn't buy your legitimacy or seem intent to help," Cale seems troubled by that, "then let me know, I'll speak to him personally on the matter. Also, Malik, I'd value you your thoughts, opinions, and insights; so even if Brodert doesn't cooperate, please return here."
Cale then turns to another guard, "While I know the Sheriff is out, who is his second in command? I'd like to speak with them as well..." Cale then sets the journal on a table, preferably outside of Tsuto's cell, and waits there for others to arrive, patiently watching for Tsuto to awaken and absentmindedly turning a ring around and around again in his fingers, pocketing it if anyone approaches or if Tsuto wakes up without seeming to notice he even held it.
"Just what are you planning...?" he mutters to Tsuto's unconscious figure.
[If the guard replies that there is no 'second in command' of any kind, he'll instead ask the guard to relay to Mayor Kendra Deverin that Sandpoint is currently in an unknown amount of danger and that he'd like to speak to her about what may be going on and about protecting the people.]

Smiling slightly he nods to Cale. "I'll see if I can find this man for you. It shouldn't be too hard to convince him to come and speak with you. And I'm not sure how much I can help, I only know herbs and Nature, but I would be happy to give you my opinion on matters as they come up if you wish, and I will certaintly meet you back here, hopefully with this 'Brodert Quink' along with me." Nodding once to Cale, he turns and walks out, asking the guard that Cale was speaking with about Brodert. Once he gets his answer (because I assume I will get the same answer, plus directions I assume, since I'll ask), Malik will head off to the 'Old Light' in search of Brodert. If he doesn't find him there he will go to the Curious Goblin in search of him there.

After a few minutes, the initial confusion seems to pass, and the guards take better account of the situation. They dispatch a guard that aids Tsuto's recovery, "can't let the star suspect just die on us.." Even with the help, without magical aid it will be a few hours before he is conscious.
The chief deputy come in to meet with Cale. "Now the, what did you need? I was already told a bit about the status at the Glassworks..."
Malik looks around the Old Light and knocks on the door of the small house that was indicated by the guard as belonging to Brodert. With no response, he follows the lead back down Main street to the Curious Goblin. As he walks down the street, he notices the sign that indicates the bookstore, a wide-eyed goblin reading a book nearly as tall as him. Before he has a chance to head in that direction, he is suddenly surprised by a warm object being pushed against him. "Oh, you poor thing. Look at you, you're a mess, you must be starving. Can't let a promising young man go hungry." The object in your hands is a fresh loaf of bread, and the woman disappears again into the bakery, Sandpoint Savories.
Going back to what he was doing, the Curious Goblin is a fair sized bookstore with a surprisingly large collection. In addition to the shelves of books, there are several large chairs, seemingly to allow locals to relax and read. In fact, at the moment, a balding man is sitting quietly reading one of the larger tomes. The man sitting behind the counter, also reading, notices your entrance, "well, I didn't expect you to be the first of your group to grace my store. Can I help you find some- oh, could I ask you to leave your ehrm, friend outside?" The man looks a little worried about Freohr, once commanded to stay, he goes back to looking at ease. "Now, what can I help you with?"

Looking at the loaf of bread oddly, he looks up to thank the woman just in time to see her disappear back into the bakery. Shaking his head, a slightly confused look on his face, he slides the loaf of bread into his pack for now, too busy to eat it now, although the smell of it reminds him just how hungry he really is.
After having Freohr stay outside by the door, Malik smiles at the man in a friendly manner. "Greetings Sir, my name is Malik. I am looking for a man by the name of Brodert Quint. Might you know where I could find him?
(If this guy is Brodert Quint): "I was asked to find you by one of my associates. We were informed that you might know some things on a few obscure subjects that we required some information on. Unfortunately, my friend didn't have the time to come to you himself, as he has duties that require him to stay where he is. However we would be much obliged if you could come and speak with us."
(If the other guy is Brodert Quint): "My apologies for bothering you good sir, but I was asked to find you by one of my associates. We were informed that you might know some things on a few obscure subjects that we required some information on. Unfortunately, my friend didn't have the time to come to you himself, as he has duties that require him to stay where he is. However we would be much obliged if you could come and speak with us."

"Ah, thank you deputy. The reason I've called you here is this." Cale sets the journal down on the table next to him. "This journal, penned by Tsuto himself if I'm not mistaken, points to a lot of trouble for Sandpoint. Namely, it talks about burning this town down and makes mention of a lot of unknown things. With the large number of goblin incursions and with the fact that journal talks about the goblins and even their recent avenues of attack leads me to believe it is legitimate and not just an uncouth diversion and joke. We need to figure out what it is referring to here with these various notes. If we figure out what it refers to it, myself and my associates can go deal with it while leaving the town in your hands. With everyone informed and the more information we can gather and the more of this we figure out, the better prepared we'll all be." Cale hands the journal over for the man to read, but makes it clear he still needs it here for when the others show up. "I've called the other people here in hopes that we can pool our thoughts as to what these various things may be and what the best course of action for the future of Sandpoint is. The mayor should also be told at some point. I don't want anyone in the dark about this."

Cale: The man takes the journal with a slightly worried look and flips through it. His worry only increases as he goes through each of the pages. "This is troublesome," he puts the book down on the table. "I'm not sure of some of some the things in here, I can see where you would get confused. I suppose you wouldn't know about Father Tobyn, you are new to town." He takes a quick look around to make sure there aren't any other civilians around, "...he was the priest before Father Zantus, he died in the fire that claimed the chapel. We got a report a few days ago from Father Zantus after he notice the remains had been upturned. We didn't understand the meaning behind it until this," He motions towards the journal. "I'm surprised Sheriff Hemlock didn't tell you about it when we found out, he must not have thought it important at the time, or maybe it slipped his mind... *sigh* In any case, it looks the remains were used in some sort of dark ritual, and this," he flips open the journal and points at one of the sketches of the woman, "looks like his daughter, Nualia." Seeing your confusion, he explains further who he is talking about. "Well, his adopted daughter. We thought she had died in the fire that claimed Father Tobyn... and nearly all of uptown. But if that is her, I guess we were wrong."
After a bit, a guard walks in an informs you that Bethana, the halfling maid from the Rusty Dragon you requested will not be coming. "She says she is too busy seeing to Miss Ameiko and the Rusty Dragon to leave at the moment, but said to tell you that she doesn't think she know's much more than she already told you." The guard looks a little uncomfortable under the tension hanging in the room, "if that is all sir, I will go back to my duties." The cheif deputy nods and the guard takes his leave.
After a little longer, Malik returns with an elderly balding man following him -
Malik: The main in the chair turns around as you speak his name, "oh ho! Some recognition for my talents I see. I suppose I can take a look at whatever you have." Brodert will accompany you and can join the others a the Garrison. "Now, what did you need? I mostly cater to academia so I can't help you with any sort of battle tactics."
Beric & Lorania: Lorania has no trouble resting in her room or in the common room at the Rusty Dragon. What is Beric doing?

Beric pokes around town trying to turn up any rumors he can about the situation, still playing his wood harp. He has, however, thrown out the rusty longsword he had been using and has replaced it with a rapier with an engraved silver hilt marked with the symbol of Cayden Cailean. He also carries a finely made longbow and quiver with him about town, as if he is expecting trouble. He hopes that the townfolk with begin to recognize him as being friendly and open up a bit about anything interesting as it relates to their investigation.

Cale begins to press the subject, but quickly stops when Malik arrives to begin anew.
"Alright, this is most of us. As I was discussing with the deputy here, what is your name by the way? Sorry, the pressing nature of the matter has made a boor out of me. As I was saying though, this journal here is the subject of a great deal of worry." Cale passes the journal around to the assembled people. "This journal, penned by Tsuto himself spells disaster for Sandpoint in no uncertain or veiled threats. I have been informed as to who Tobyn was, but there is a graver issue at hand with the presence of his adoptive daughter Nualia." Cale lets the others peruse it, and fills Malik in on what he knows of Tobyn as told by the deputy.
"Whether Tsuto is a willing subordinate or being duped is irrelevant, but it is clear he's acting under orders from her due to both the repression present in this diary as well as the overall theme of infatuation. This is compounded by the fact that we've seen Tsuto and not Nualia, confirming that either she is the mind behind all of this... or at the very least more subtle than Tsuto. What is clear is that they have, at the very least, the support of the goblins." Cale pauses, "What we need now is all the information we can gather regarding Tsuto and this Nualia. As well as the terms mentioned in the journal such as 'Lamashtu, Lamashtu's Fire, and Malfeshnekor'." Cale seems unsure of the pronunciation but looks around hopeful that others might know. "We also need to figure out where this Nualia is. If she's stopped it will likely remove the threat of the goblins as well."
Cale sits: "Without being to directly ask Tsuto, who will likely not cooperate anyway, we must best discover, decipher, and deduce what we can about our situation and how best to proceed. (Deputy's Name here, assuming he gives it), any word on when the Sheriff will return with those soldiers?"

"Hmmm," the elderly man adjusts his glasses as he looks through the journal. "Very interesting. Well, there isn't much to go on, but you have a good eye for the important parts. I mostly specialize in ancient Varisian history, studying the relics left behind from the Thassilonian Empire. They left behind fascinating relics, but nobody knows for sure what hardly any of them..." Brodert realizes he is rambling and tries to refocus, "ehhrm. As I was saying, it isn't my specialty, but I'm fairly certain that Lamashtu (la-MASH-tu) is a goddess. A horribly evil one if I am remembering correctly, she is called the mother of monsters so it seems to fit. Goblins might worship her, they're definitely monstrous enough, so that could explain the relationship, perhaps?"
He looks around to make sure everyone is following, "I'm not familiar with this Malfeshnekor, however. Unless, there was another thing you needed help with? I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help."
The deputy, whose name is Pavo Galens, lets you know that he isn't sure when he'll be back, probably at least a few more days (it hasn't been that long yet really).

Cale nods thoughtfully. "Well, at this point, it looks like we have to wait for Tsuto to awaken to get any vital information. Thank you sir, I appreciate your help, if you happen across anything else that might aid us, please let someone know." Cale bows courteously and is fine with the man leaving after he is done. He turns to Malik and Pavo, "Mother of monters...? Tell me, Nualia was adopted, what was her ancestry? Also, seeing as how we're stuck waiting for Tsuto, we might as well make the best of our time and mayhaps cripple some of this goblin organization. I vote we target this Ripnugget. Shalelu told us he's in charge of what the goblins deem the best lair, and with the mention of him in this journal... maybe his timely end will throw the beasts into disarray and infighting. It certainly seems a more valid target than the bugbear who Tsuto said was being obstinate. No sense in defeating only a possible adversary and not a confirmed one." Cale looks to the others for any input or thoughts they might have and, after hearing it, continues: "Also, Pavo, do you think that they might be willing to make an exception and either waive the costs of healing or fund them for the benefit of Sandpoint? Sooner my friends, the ones who wish to go at least, and I are healed; then the sooner we can be on our way to try and defeat a possible goblin invasion before it begins."
Cale has an angered frown, as though what he is about to say next troubles him, "I'll trust Tsuto to your care, but do not let Ameiko in to see him until she is aware that she may be the only one he'll possibly open up to. With that in mind, I would prefer that worked to our advantage, and not his." Cale sighs, glad to have said that and be done with it. "Anyways, about that healing? I'm sure the mayor would be willing to spare a bit of aid to the people actively trying to save the town." Tsuto smiles a bit, quite legitimately and honestly he is trying to save Sandpoint. There is no hint of 'you owe us' in his voice at all.

Chief Deputy Galens seems to think over the journal and your plans. "Hmmm, the biggest thing that concerns me is where those goblins you took down in the Glassworks came from. Tsuto seems to mention using tunnels in the Glassworks as a way for them to attack from. The reason why that raid had such a profound effect was because they somehow managed to get in without us noticing. Based on what it says here, it doesn't seem like they are ready yet anyway, whatever is under the Glasswork seems like a bit more of a threat..."
When you mention healing Pavo seems to realize, or at least remember, that you and Malik are not in the best shape. "Of course, we should be able to work something out to get you in shape to help us out." He composes a writ good for healing from the cathedral.
[ooc] I rolled it out, and everyone is healed fully from a single round of spells. Since nobody has rested yet, everyone's first level spells are still expended. Those of you with orisons can cast them at will normally now. Beric's Judgement ability is expended in replacement of the Bardic Music ability that he had used previously. I think that is everything.[/ooc]

Cale reassembles who he can of the party that went in the first time and returns to the glassworks to investigate the tunnel, having been healed to full strength and now fully ready for combat once more. [Yes, we get a torch out and the like and yes, Cale will take point in investigating the tunnel. Someone behind Cale can hold the torch.]

The subtle sounds of the wood harp give Beric's location near the stone stone statue away as Cale approaches. It would have been difficult to recognize him, if not for the melody he loves to pluck as he wanders Sandpoint. His visage has changed somewhat, gone is the joyous boy who loved nothing more than to play a song for a passing dame -- it has been replaced with a sterner man dressed for adventure. He heartily agrees to continue accompanying them and slips the wood harp back into its case and falling into line behind him. He asks casually if he learned anything from Tsuto or from the journal.
As they approach the Glassworks, Beric removes a red-glass enclosed lantern which sheds light yet does not seem to ruin their night-vision. He carefully strikes the flint and steel against the wick until it births a merry flame. He then removes a piece of string nearly as tall as he is, attaching the bowstring to the piece of wood at his back. He gives the bow a test-pull and satisfied he continues, lantern held high in one hand and a bow in the other as they reenter the building and head towards the abandoned tunnel in the basement.
