Lorania awakens late in the day, dresses and trods downstairs, only to find... people. She asks for (and receives) some fruit from Ameiko, then proceeds to turn right around. Heading straight back to her room, she climbs out her window and onto the roof with the fruits tucked securely into her vest. The rest of the day is spent in anti-social peace laying in the sun and slowly picking her way through the- "Hey bird! Git away from that apple 'fore I eat you instead!"

Beric von Chultiz finishes his studying as the sun reaches its zenith in the sky. Placing the tome carefully backed in the folded sheep skin and tucking it away in his backpack, Beric steps out into the street and calls to his familiar, which comes fluttering down from the roof to land on his shoulder and tweets happily at their reunion. Beric passes away the day performing some of his simple melodies, accompanied by his song bird, as he strolls through the streets of Sandpoint, attempting to gather information on some topics that interest him personally, including the recent goblin attacks, book stores or stores with writing supplies in Sandpoint, and any other interesting rumors he may come across as he listens to and interacts with the townsfolk.

Beric gathers a decent group of people as he plays through the streets. Asking around afterwards, he is able to easily find directions to the Curious Goblin Bookstore (#22) as well as a few places to get writing supplies like the General Store (#26) and the Sandpoint Boutique (#41). Asking around for rumors you hear a few of the following: - "Oh, the cathedral was in no danger, I hear it's magically protected against fire!"
- "I heard that Goblins are the source behind the first fire that took the chapel..."
- "Goblins are always around, they're wicked good at hiding"

Being up at dawn for his morning prayers, Jubaul greets the day early. He sees Zenovia off to work and begins helping around the cathedral, with anything that happens to come up. When he doesn't have any work to be getting done, he takes the time to get to know the townsfolk in the area, chatting to them about all sorts of topics, sketching rough maps to show people where all he's traveled, and generally being a likable sort of fellow. When time comes for the noon meal, he goes to the city hall, so as not to eat alone.

Late in the afternoon, rumor starts to travel rather quickly that there might be another goblin threat rising. Upon further pressing, a few people lay mention that an elven woman came into town looking a bit roughed up.
Shortly after the rumors start milling about town, Sheriff Hemlock comes to the Rusty Dragon. Before he goes inside he notices the lone half-elf laying on the roof and motions for her to come down. Once inside he finds Cale, "I didn't think it would be so soon, but I have some more interesting developments to share with you. We'll need to be gathering up the lot of you, starting with the lass up on the roof..."
After finding everyone he leads you to the town hall.
[ooc] I will assume that you either notice or specifically find Beric and invite him to join you as well. Let me know if this is not the case or if anyone doesn't follow... [/ooc]

Jubaul becomes confused at the invitation, but quickly moves past it and follows the sheriff, suggesting that Beric von Chultiz may also be of use, and interested in helping with whatever is the issue.

Sheriff Hemlock brings you into a comfortable office on the second floor of town hall. Inside, he introduces you personally to Kendra Deverin, mayor of Sandpoint, and she gratefully thanks you each for your efforts during the raid by the goblins. Hemlock then indicates an elven woman "...and this is Shalelu Andosana, an unofficial member of Sandpoint's town guard," the woman smirks a bit at her introduction. "Shalelu has been a thorn in the side of the local goblin tribes for years, few in the region know more about them than her. Sandpoint isn't the only place in the region that has had goblin troubles recently. There has been an increase in goblin-related raids along the Lost Coast Road, particularly in the dale between Nettlewood and Mosswood. They were even so bold as to burn down a farm south of Mosswood yesterday... Thankfully Shalelu was nearby, and she managed to rescue the family and drive off the goblins. Even so, the farm couldn't be saved and the problem is obviously not just going away... Maybe Shalelu can explain what she has found out."
Shalelu steps forward to address you. "Belor’s told me of your work against the goblins—well done. I’ve dedicated the last several years of my life to keeping them from causing too much trouble around these parts, but they’re tenacious and fecund little runts. Like weeds that bite. "Anyway, there’s five major goblin tribes in the region, and, traditionally, they’re pretty good at keeping each other in line with intertribal squabbles and the like. Yet from what I’ve been able to piece together, members of all five tribes were involved in the raid on Sandpoint. A fair amount of the Mosswood tribe goblins I dealt with yesterday were already pretty beat up, and there was a lot of chatter about the ‘longshanks’ who killed so many of them. Now that I’ve met you, it seems obvious from their descriptions who they were talking about. Seems like you’ve made an impression. "In any event, the fact that the five tribes are working together disturbs me. Goblin tribes don’t get along unless they’ve got something big planned, and big plans require big bosses. I’m afraid that someone’s moved in on the goblins and organized them. And judging by these recent raids, what they’re organizing seems like bad news for all of us."
After Shalelu's report, Sheriff Hemlock speaks up again. "I'm taking a few men south to Magnimar to see about securing additional soldiers to station at Sandpoint for a few weeks, at least until the extent of the goblin threat can be determined. While I'm out of town, I have asked Shalelu to sniff around Shank's Wood, Devil's Platter, and other places where goblins live to see if she can discover anything else about what is going on. I would like you to maintain a public presence in Sandpoint over the next few days if you don't mind. The locals seem to have taken to you and seeing you around town will do a lot for keeping worries down over the next few days while I'm away."
[ooc] If there are no more questions, after the meeting Shalelu asks to join you for dinner, suggesting the Rusty Dragon if nobody objects. She'd like to hear more from you and in return she can impart a bit of her knowledge about the goblin pests. [/ooc]

"The Rusty Dragon, eh?" Beric von Chultiz replies with a wide smile. He gazes at Shalelu and nods at her request for dinner. He attempts to get to know her better on the way back, asking her questions both about herself and the history of the five tribes of goblins.

Lorania stays quiet for most of this leaning against a wall or table. she listens, nodding where appropriate. she is not scowling, so it should be considered an improvement from their meetings with Ald. she may seem a bit nervous twitching and flattening the hair that hangs over her ears every time Shalelu looks in a different direction.

"Sheriff," Cale begins when he has finished speaking, "with you leaving, who will be in charge of the town guard? It'd be best to keep it organized and efficient in case of a goblin attack in your absence, which is a very real possibility... they could be waiting for you and a few of your men to leave before another attack. I would hope to give them very few advantages if they are planning such a thing and confusion in the ranks would be a large advantage for them to have."
Cale waits for a reply, but also asks Shalelu: "Has there been any uniting force like this boss of theirs before? We should focus on discovering the identity of it and neutralizing it, in my opinion. The goblins would likely fall on each other with even greater tenacity than before to fill the power vacuum. Besides... if the boss is anything other than a power hungry goblinoid, it likely has a plan... and from what I saw of the goblins and learned from the one... it is a plan it is keeping to itself."
Other than that, Cale will continue to the Rusty Dragon with Shalelu and the others. As ever, he tends to 'not hear' questions or gloss over details about himself. Remaining generally quiet about his personal life and quite aloof from the conversation, though he still smiles and enjoys the company.

"I for one was planning on staying around here for a bit longer already. I'd be happy to help out."
[Jubaul will go along with this plan, as well as dinner, chatting amiably and getting to know everyone, particularly Shalelu.]

In response to Cale: Sheriff Hemlock - "The guard is prepared for what I have planned, and that's why I wanted you to know that I was leaving. This way you can be prepared if something does happen. From what I've been told, the goblins seem pretty well afraid of the treatment they got from you. I feel safe keeping things in your care."
Shalelu - "Yes, well that is exactly why I need to investigate more. While Belor is getting reinforcements, I'm going to try find what I can about what is going on."
After the meeting: Shalelu to Beric's question of the tribes: "Well yes, there are five tribes. The closest to Sandpoint are the Birdcruncher goblins that live in caves along the western edge of the Devil's Platter, but they are usually the least aggressive of the five tribes. To the south are the Licktoad goblins of the Brinestump Marsh, pests that are excellent swimmers. East are the Seven Tooth goblins of Shank's Wood, they have secured a place for themselves by raiding Sandpoint's junkyard and rebuilding the stolen refuse into armor and weapons. Further east are the Mosswood goblins, probably the largest tribe but they are usually held back by feuds even among their own tribe. Finally, the Thistletop goblins, who live on the Nettlewood coast atop a small island, some say it holds a passing resemblance to a decapitated head." She laughs a bit, "What about you? Did any of you happen to notice where the goblins came from? How did the battle go, give them a good whomping?"

Beric shakes his head sullenly upon her hearing her line of questioning.
"The nasty little beasts hit me over the head with a heavy rock, so I am afraid that I spent most of the time during the attack unconcious, Shalelu. The others here, as you likely have heard, performed a great deed in running the remaining band of goblins off though. From the bodies that were found, you say that they were from among all five tribes?"
Beric speaks quietly with Ameiko, if she can be found upon their return, about having the opportunity to perform in the Rusty Dragon following their meal.

Shalelu nods sullenly, "yes, its strange, its rare for the tribes to come together like that. That is why I need to look into it a bit more, and hopefully Belor will be able to get reinforcements to help with the threat..."
Ameiko is perfectly happy to let you perform, she welcomes the chance for other people to entertain the crowd.
