Cuz we just lost a shitload of recent posts. Anything past the first of July is toast.

Dude, I have no idea what caused this. Nothing should had done this at all. Nor do I know how to fix it. There's no backup tools in the admin tools or the like.
All I can say is hope those posts return sometime soon. I'll see about checking some other stuff out. Otherwise, I think we're due for new forums...

...I totally remember where we were in every game I was in. And I keep all my characters saved exactly as I post them in a notepad (i.e. formatting is all done). Did we really lose anything?
Xorvi - I'm owning (stomping through a floor) Arcana - I'm owning (PM stuff and bothering Ric) SurvMar - I'm owning (just downed armored thingy) EmpDivided - THE RANCOR IS OWNING!!! (we're going through a tunnel) OnceForAll - Vice is owning (Kannod is wandering aimlessly) CursePharWOAH - Nobody playing is owning (maybe at waiting for stuff, probably didn't lose any posts here)
Cool. Damage fixed.

Wow, that's ridiculous. Any idea what could have caused this?
... That's a pretty hard blow, losing nearly a whole month's worth of posts...

Ummm. look carefully at that, this is after their fix. We just lost almost a month's worth of data and we aren't getting it back.
Does anybody have other information to help recover our information?

An easy way to backup your own posts is to go to your profile and use the "View Latest Posts" feature. You can type in a number up to 1,000 and then when the page loads just right click / save. This will save all your posts to one file.
--Does someone want to be in charge of doing this every week or so for future references?

My only major losses are as follows: I had not backed up anything on Warhammer as I had not been backing any of that up (doing all the work on the forums for it) due in part to the fact that at first I had no idea if there would be any interest in it even. With this debacle taking out the chaos faction as I had just completed it and removing all my established ideas, I'm in a bit of a quandary as to whether or not I want to try and bring that one back. I'll think about it but for right now it's getting put on the back-burner.
Joe, you're right, we didn't lose MUCH of the ideas of where we were. Only a jarring amount of context. I think every DM is going to need to come in and deliver a post about what is going on for each involved character before games return to movement. Should clear things up and help everyone get back up to steam. Yay/nay?
Oh and Joe, guess you win this round. It did work out in your favor not to start a game yet. Guess once again my cosmic unluckiness versus your and Chris's cosmic-luckiness plays out again. Also pretty funny that you're "owning" in every game sans Once and For All.
Gonna also have to not express too much interest in the saving 1000 posts business. My reason for that is pretty straightforward. This should be a one-in-a-billion occurrence. If it isn't, we should find other forums as opposed to developing countermeasures to faulty bull#$*!.

I actually think i have an entire backup of the chaos faction... and alot of your other warhammer stuff.. I'll check later when I get a chance. Gotta head to work right now.
This sucks, but hopefully we should be able to recover without too much trouble.

I know we aren't big on following rules like posting characters or updating regularly, but I feel like it's the GM's obligation to save their Campaign info as they design it. It should be another rule we don't follow, cuz I'd do it if I started a game (as so evidenced by my archival of characters). I guess I've just spent enough time in an industry that will disintegrate you if shit crashes and content goes missing. Save often and widely.

Yeah, I lost all of that stuff for my game. Thankfully, it's still fresh in my mind, so I should be able to reproduce most of it. Sadly, my computer is also on the fritz too. So I'm stuck to work on my netbook primarly until I can fix teh compy. And of course, to add insult to injury, I picked up Starcraft 2 today...
Now then, since this has happened, I think it's time to look for a new forum for us to operate with. Proboards is fairly limited as is, so maybe something new may be better for us. Anyone have any suggestions?

Honestly, reading through the stuff that got posted above in the link, I don't know that we need to find someplace else, unless you guys are just looking to move somewhere. This seems to me to be one of those one in a million flukes that just sucks when it happens.
But, if you guys want to move forums, up to you. lol. I don't know of any other decent free websites for forums. But then again I haven't really ever looked either.

I agree that this is hopefully just a fluke. But I'm also not against finding a better forum.
Sadly, I also don't know where we could go...

Well, I mean did you guys go and read what the admins said happened? Its a crazy weird set of coincidences. They had a harddrive just crash, hardcore unrecoverable style, and it just happened to take place during the 3 week period that they were delaying backups because of server issues (Normally they backup once a week, so people don't lose a months worth of data like they did this time). I don't know the odds, but it seems like one of those things that is just astronomically unlikely to happen again. I mean seriously, whats the likely hood that the harddrive that our boards are on (Which I might add, is brand new considering this) is going to crash again, and it will happen to be during a time of low backups? Astronomically high i would guess, considering how many harddrives they must have, with all the forums they have. lol. Anyway, just my 2 cents for those people who didn't go read about the problem. Knowledge is power!.....Gi Joe!.... sorry had to.

I understand shit happens. Shouldn't happen again. But it wouldn't hurt to find ourselves new forums. Sadly, I think this is our best bet as for free boards. So, do we all want to pitch in a buy ourselves a new forum? lol
